Galaxy S2 confirmed for Verizon

Phandroid confirmed that Verizon will be getting at least a version of the GS2:

Verizon’s Spring Roadmap Leaked, April Full of Androids with Samsung Droid Charge, Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, and HTC Droid Incredible 2 [EXCLUSIVE]

But it appears that the GS2 will be going to ATT as well, so there will be choices with this handset...

I'll let you know that I played with one on 3/19/2011 in a VZW store that was being held hostage by the Samsung rep. Yes, GS2 in VZW and it was the same form factor.

Was the phone you played with 3G or LTE? Nothing I have seen shows the GS2 as LTE. Even without 4g, it looks very cool.

I have to say if this is true, then the specs on this phone blow away both the Droid Bionic ( more RAM) and the Thunderbolt ( Dual Core).

Because FCC compliance isn't needed yet. They have no intention of selling it right now. Go look at how far out the Xoom was sent to the FCC. 2 weeks before release. Same thing with iPhones... Manufacturers hold FCC checks until the last possible moment to keep their devices as close to secret as possible. I expect FCC submission to happen about 2 weeks before release.

As for the LTE, the VZW rep was the one that said it had LTE, but I could not confirm it on the actual device as there was no data connection enabled in the software at all. Perhaps that's even more of a confirmation as we have all seen the ATT devices with functioning data connections.

So maybe they haven't gotten the LTE drivers ready for the LTE chipset in the phone??? Or maybe she just had a GSM device and turned off the data so when she went into VZW they wouldn't see "AT&T" on the screen??

Don't know, but I couldn't verify the rep's claims when I looked at the phone. I do know what was both said to me on 3/19 and now what was leaked to phandroid...and they both jive.

Thanks for the further comment on info you got from them. I really hope this is true. Then this phone will be huge hit, killer phone, putting Bionic, Evo 3D to shame no matter how many folks are ranting about Sammy's slow froyo updates.

SCH-I520 is the Droid Charge. I510 is simply a misprint... look at the actual screen shot taken in the article, it still shows the 520 model #, so same phone.

Which ones did you see? The most recent ones from CTIA, androidcommunity and Russian review are all looking super smooth and fluid like iPhone4.

Yes, most of those videos were a month old if not older. The phone was far from out. More recent videos show a super buttery smooth even with the heavy flash. Go look in the SGSII thread that's for videos. Look at the comparison of it with the iphone and atrix. It was slippery smooth in that. Most of the test the user pressed things last on the SGSII and it still finished first.

The Droid Stealth is the i510. Plus, misprint or not, both model numbers, both with dummy units, are in Verizon's system per the previous link I posted. I'm thinking the i520 could just be the SGS2.

2.3.3 is supposed to be coming to the Galaxy S devices soon.

The fact that international versions of the Galaxy S got updated LONG before the US should tell you it was the carrier's doing more than Samsung.

Very true. If it really has 4G LTE in that slim body and 4G toggle switch, it's killer phone that will rule this year with beautiful screen, fast dual core processor, plenty of memory.

No one has confirmed it except almost ATT due to it passing FCC with ATT bands and Samsung mobile showing only ATT bands support

Agree if this does come to verizon with LTE it will blow those other phones out of the water. Samsung makes nice products its just their updates that kills them.

Samsung actually updated their Galaxy S outside U.S fairly quick. Only in U.S, it was painfully slow due to carriers though I think samsung is partially responsible too. Fascinate remains to be the last one still waiting on froyo update since VZW has the most thorough and longest testing procedure than any carriers.

The fact that SGS2 is coming with 2.3 gingerbread out of box mitigates this concern a bit. But I hope they learned lesson and beefed up the software update process.

True. They just need to work closer with U.S carriers to have them out in a timely manner. I don't blame Sammy alone on it, but you'll never hear a carrier admitting to the slow process. I mean leaked updates come from carriers. Notice only the GSM versions of phones get simliar updates like the original Galaxy S. For example through kies and etc. The Epic did not, so I mean it's a lot to say in it. It's definitely not Sammys fault though. They're on their A game if you ask me. I just want to have the Sprints version in my hand already.

If they lose the keyboard, it won't be that much thicker with a 4G radio. The 4G nexus is not noticeably thicker then the Original Nexus. You'd have to actually have them side by side to tell. I'm sure most people didn't even know it was a smidget thicker.

I hope the lesson they learned is to just push out the GS2 as a carbon copy of the international with different radio/frequency support. I realize there's some sort of incentive from the carriers to the manufacturers to "exclusivise" the hardware in the phone, but at this point, manufacturers should be releasing single build phones with CDMA/HSPA (pentaband)/LTE support that's firmware controlled.
