I had a problem with my phone and sent it in to Samsung to get rapaired. Since I got it back, they reset the phone back to 2.3. I tried manually updating to 2.3.3, but have gotten an error code

"E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (Status 7)
Installation aborted"

Does anyone know what this means or can help me figure out what I am doing wrong? Also, when I got the phone back, I got a startup screen with a picture of a lock on the bottom of "Google". The lock appears broken at the bottom. The broken portion is still over the lock though. Can this be part of the problem?

Okay, I did some research and found the phone came back from Crapsung unlocked. However, I tried to put a recovery on there so I can put lock it again, but have not been able to. I keep getting a "waiting for device" while in "cmd" on my computer. On cmd, I have no problem going to the nexussroot directory and seeing the files. Any help would be appreciated.

you said you want to update from 2.3.? .. but be sure to have the good update because if you have 2.3.1 and the package is '' from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 '' its normal its not gonna work. and be sure too that you have the update.zip FOR the nexus s because alot of crap site give the one of the nexus one.

Did the manual update from 2.3.1 over 2.3.2 to 2.3.3. Everything went smooth apart from a wrong update file in first attempt from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3. I had gotten an updatefile from 2.3.1 to 2.3.3 and I was on 2.3.2. When it failed I checked the filename and it said it clearly from GRH78 to GRI40 ("..GRI40-from-GRH78.."). The correct one must be "..GRI40-from-GRH78C..". at least if you are updating from 2.3.2.
I don't know if you can go directly from 2.3.1 to 2.3.3. The filename seems to indicate it.

So I'm on 2.3.3 - colors ok with me :D

I was UNABLE to update from 2.3.1 to 2.3.3! I had to update to 2.3.2 first then it would let me update to 2.3.3 all done manually!

Then you used the wrong update file.
