Dell Streak 2.2 update

Streaksmart.com

It was not smooth sailing at all. It was a pita for me. I made a couple of videos regarding my initial thoughts

Thank you for the prompt response!

So I used the instructions on MoDaCo from this link:

Unofficial Dell Streak Android 2.1 Update 1 Now Available - psionmark

Once I reboot while holding the volume keys and follow the rest of the instructions, I get the "FOTA Model Name Mismatch" error.

I was sure to rename the update file to "Update.pkg", with particular attention to the uppercase "U".

Any ideas?

Thanks!

And after checking, my assumption was correct.

Hmmm, my device is an AT&T Streak, but the update is the O2 one, however I've been reading accounts from multiple people with AT&T Streaks successfully installing that update.

If it helps any, I'm rooted and have access to sideload apps.

Where would be the best place to look for advice at this point?

Thanks!

Well, I wouldn't trust the representatives ... this is a portion of my chat with a Dell representative:

Rok: "Hello. I have just one question regarding the Dell Streak - is there a timline for the Android 2.2 update and will it be available for all Streaks - AT&T, O2 and unlocked?"

Agent (Jonathan B): "Let me help you with that one, and as of today we are yet to receive a official info regarding that one... however, the available Dell streak that we do have right now is running on 1.6 Android and you download it's upgrade in the Android Market to get to a higher Android version."

So there is no official info, and the update will be via Market? As far as I know Dell officially posted the fact they will update to 2.2, and the updates definitely aren't via Market, so there is really not much to be trusted by the reps.

AT&T streaks should be upgradeable to 2.2 now without rooting or anything special. Did he try Settings->About phone-> Update?

Oh here's some info:
AT&T finally releases Android 2.2 (Froyo) update for Dell Streak

and to further assist, following the official link from the url above takes you to the same official page as your device.. which says THERE ARE NO UPDATES AT THIS TIME

I waited patiently for a couple weeks for my phone to notify me or for dell to update its page... nothing from amy on the support pages, she is on leave I think...

I ended up going from 1.6 to 2.2 via the download the official att 2.2 for locked phones to my sd card... then renamed my file to update.pkg ... used the recovery option on the phone to use that image ... this was also much faster and easier than the QDLtool ... if anyone is still waiting for 2.2 update and just bought from best buy like I did and your patience is wearing thin, let me know if u need the link where I downloaded... im on 2.2 now and love the device!

can you please link me to the 2.2 download? Does it matter what build he's on? I think he's on (661) *not exactly sure but i know it's in the 600's*

I found one random link that gave the exact instructions of rename the file to update.pkg but i believe it was for 2.1. when i tried loading it from bootloader it seemed like it was going to work then I got a FOTB mismatch error. Can you link me to the 2.2 software you used to upgrade? My buddy and I would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry I probably should have posted the link a week ago before I had to go through my history to find it lol!

So i had done a google search - dug up a post on the official att forums for dell streak of people having my same frustrations - Best Buy selling these with 1.6!

Upgrade Dell Streak to Android 2.2 - Page 2 - AT&T Community Support

In that thread, where to download the image for at&t version 340
Dell Streak - XDA-Developers

There was a post in there referencing XDA forums which lay out the steps:

  • rename it update.pkg and put it in the root of your SD Card
  • Boot into recovery mode by powering off, then powering on while holding BOTH volume buttons
  • Select option 2 from the recovery menu to install the update

I downloaded that image to my SD card on my streak ... followed those steps .. waited about 10 or so minutes... and I was easily on 2.2... I was never rooted nor was I ever able to get QDL tool working on W7 64bit

I did exactly what I posted:

1) Download the PKG image for at&t version 340
Dell Streak - XDA-Developers

2) rename it update.pkg and put it in the root of your SD Card on the Streak

3) Boot into recovery mode by powering off, then powering on while holding BOTH volume buttons

4) Select option 2 from the recovery menu to install the update

I downloaded that image to my SD card on my streak, renamed it update.pkg ... I just followed the above steps.. the phone recovered on 2.2 fresh install.
