Changing from a 2 year contact to a 1 year

ok. if you are within your 30 days, anything is possible. tell them what you want. they can do it for you, or you can return it-then buy again with a 1 year contract. there is nothing written that says you can't do this.
once out of your 30 day window, YOU ARE STUCK!

cdmta hit it on the nose exactly. If they don't just switch it, tell them you want to return the device and cancel your two year agreement (which seemingly would be a bigger hassle for them). If they tell you they want to know why you're returning it, say the hardware isn't to your liking enough to commit for two years, but you'd hold on to it for one. Actually, you can try calling Verizon's customer service, they might be able to help you. In my experience, the retail stores are just awful around here. Direct phone support has been phenomenal in comparison over the years.

If I change to a 1 year plan before my return period is over, does it count down from the date of purchase or the date I changed the plan? Might be a stupid question, and I'm assuming it starts from the date of purchase, but I just want to make sure.

My other question is about upgrading before the contract is up. I understand I wouldn't get the new every 2 discount, but can I still buy a new phone for the subsidized price if I agree to extend my contract out another 2 years beyond the original expiration of the contract?

It will start from the day you make the change

If you have a two year contract with VZW and want to upgrade after 1 year you can. Instead of a $100.00 credit you get $50.00 and get your new device at the two year price. Keep in mind you enter into a new two year contract. An activation fee may be applied depending upon your contract.

FALSE! 1yr upgrades do not get any $$ discount unless they are vip.. which vip is going away anyways. And there isnt any activation fees on any upgrades only new activations..

As long as your plans are $50 or more before the mandatory internet plan, you get the full discount. You will however not get the $50 off. You will also have to pay $20 extra as well.

I understand that I was just correcting the previous wrong info

I have been with VZW about 10 years now. Don't know how they work your contract but I have a family share plan with 4 lines, for the past 4 years I have upgraded my phone every year and they give me $50 credit towards a new phone as long as I enter into an new 2 year contract. I also get the phone at the 2 year price. If I wait the full 2 years they give me $100 up grade credit.

So bottom line is I don't have to pay full retail for a new phone come next November even if I'm only a year into a 2-year ? That's what I'm hearing here. That's all I care about. Don't care about the new every 2 $50 discount.

I just have a feeling I'm gonna be frustrated by the Eris's lag by then and want something a bit snappier. I don't want the Droid, and I want to wait until N1 is vetted a bit more.

No, you will not have to pay full price, you will get the two year contract price and what ever mail in rebates as well. Depending upon the type of contract you have a $20 up grade fee may apply.
