Root I've finally ROOTED!!!

OK...now it's time to learn how to freeze some of those blurrwares!

OMG, I had to use a BB for 5 months since I lost my Nexus One and I wanted to throw the damn phone at the wall everyday. I think you can use the BB if you haven't used something better. It's like I went over a decade back in technology while using the BB

Bought titanium backup and froze all those Blurr and Bell apps! This was the only app where I just bought and not test out the free app first. lol. Thinking of buying Root Explorer but I don't know why I'd really need it so reading up on that. There's so much I've got to read up on Rooting. Like a Nand backup...how is this different than making a backup from Titanium bakcup XD My noobishness is REALLy showing now

what method and apps did you use to root your Atrix? i am having some issues with rooting mine. i am trying superoneclick v1.8 but when i click "root" or "check drivers" i get a jre unhandled exception (jre 6u24). i tried aRoot and that didnt work (i see adb do it's thing, the phone reboots and all, but its not rooted). the phone does connect to my xp sp3 (i installed the latest motorola media link software).

Superroot one click is a big no no as it didn't use the Atrix's codes and you end up having 2 busybox which isn't good. The dev that made aRoot stop supporting it, so it's not recommended. You should try out Gladroot, it's a bit harder than both superroot or aRoot (for me anyways). If the instruction in the OP thread isn't clear, then read the thread. The dev is supportive and if you have any questions just post in the XDA thread:

Mostly rooting, but I might have to underclock the CPU to extend the battery life, lol. It seems like I'm more of a heavy user than I thought :/

Sadly, I have the Bell Atrix, so until Bell/MotoCan decides to release/leak the SBF...I might never enjoy any ROMs Right now there's Gingerblur and GladiAtrix.

When I ever get enough courage...I might deodexed the ROM so that I can at least fully theme the phone, lol.

Definitely pick up Root Explorer. It is *invaluable* for the things you will find yourself wanting to do with your phone and, for a couple of bucks, is a major bargain. Trust me - Root Explorer is a "must have" app for all rooted Android phones.

Just rooted my GF's Bell Atrix, made webtop work without the dock, played with hdmi mirroring.

Out of curiosity, what service did you use to carrier unlock your atrix? Bell says they'll do it for $75 after you've had the phone for a month, but i'm pretty sure i've seen a few $20 web unlock code deals...

Well you can't really unlock the phone from Bell anyways. You need to be in the contract for 3/4 months. Also, it's expensive as HELL! I use unlock.net with promo code android50 and got 2 unlock codes for $10. I got the codes in a couple of hours, was pretty easy to do. There's some precautions that you must take if you try a few time and the codes don't work. Just make sure the codes you enter is right the first time

Im i having a hell of a time trying to root.

I have the Bell Atrix and im trying to use gladroot.

I run the program and i end up with it saying:

Preparing your computer and phone for install...

Starting ADB server...

Checking device state...

Unable to detect a device over adb.

Press any key to continue . . .


I know i have adb because i rooted my HTC Hero with the same computer.
Also the computer is recognizing my phone and the device drivers installed and are working properly.

Any ideas?

Ok my computer is telling me : Motorola ADB interface No Driver Found


im assuming i either need to get a new version of adb or get some sort of motorola drivers somewhere?

Update:
Ok so in order to fix the no driver found problem, i went to the motorola site and went here http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support , then after you select your country i selected Android, and i selected on the left, software and drivers, USB Drivers and PC CHarging Drivers and proceeded to download and install Download Motorola 4.9.0 Driver with MotoHelper*.

the install actually takes a bit considering it is only a 8 mb file, anyways about 3 quarters through the install i saw a notification on my pc system tray pop up saying that motorola adb interface installed.

then i just ran through the gladroot method and downloaded root checker from the market...at first said that i dont have root access. so i rebooted the phone, got scared for a moment because after it turned off the red light started flashing for a minute meanwhile i was freaking out thinking i had bricked my phone and i started press the power button, holding it down and stuff....pluged my phone back intothe charger ( not sure if that did anything at all) and boom the green light came on and it was like the world lifted off my shoulders.

phone turned back on, checked root checker app again and it worked, root access verified.

booooyaaaaaccaaashaaaaawwwww!!!


now for the ausy, ATT and Bell Devs to impress us and have us prey to them like gods!! =)

Great to hear that you have root access now Jared! My rooting adventure was not as dramatic as yours, but my adrenaline was pumping hard. So you have frozen all of the bloatwares?

Runs much smoother now i have noticed.
Battery is a bit better, but i also have widgets updating so it makes sense, but i didnt have the widget before and my battery was worse.

Proof the bloatware freezing works.

Now my next feat is to learn about moding moto phones. I came from the HTC Hero everything root forum and learned everything i needed to know about flashing everything.

Seems a bit different dealing with a moto phone. it would seem that most of the flashing is done from the computer?

and i have no idea how to get a recovery menu for nandroid back ups and all that.

Plus, what the heck is a SBF ?

I see that tossed around a lot on XDA .

I would ask but i don't want to bother those guys with my moto newbishness

Yes, I know what you mean, lol. Quite intimidating over there and I feel like a complete newbie. If you have questions remember to post in the Q&A section and never the Developer section. They are vicious in that regards. Their policy/culture is like the opposite here, so it gets a bit getting used to.

SBF is software binary files that contains all the information of the phone. This thread explains it better. http://androidforums.com/droid-x-support-troubleshooting/258804-what-does-sbf-stand.html
It will bring you right back to factory reset stock. It's better to have this incase you brick your phone, lol. It's one of the reasons why the developers refused to make a ROM for the Bell Atrix. From my reading in some of those threads there I was under the assumption that we couldn't do a Nandroid back up because we need Clock Work Mod, but it only works with unlock bootloader, or so I thought. Now I read that you can make a Nandroid backup, lol. So bloody damn confusing.
