Is there a flick-scrolling contacts widget?

I'm new to Android, and have the Nexus One. Before getting it, I was planning on getting the Nokia X6, which has a very cool widget that shows pics of your contacts in a row on your home screen, and allows you to scroll through them.

I assumed there would be a widget like this for Android, but can't find one. All I've found are ways to put a single contact as a shortcut on the desktop, or a few contacts together. I really want it to be compact and scrolling though. Any ideas?

Here's a pic of the X6-- you can see the scrolling contacts widget at the top.

I don't think flick scrolling is possible in a widget on stock Android. Widgets can't really animate, they just sort of refresh. Custom Android ROMs like Sense UI can do this because they have added onto the Android widget framework. The best I think you'll find is a scrolling via buttons sort of thing. That's what Twidroid does on the widget, just gives you page up/down buttons.

This is my understanding of Android right now... if this isn't right, please post.

Edit: I think there's a home replacement that has an animated widget framework. Can't remember which one, and I don't think it was very far along.

Thanks for the response. I think I'll just end up placing shortcuts to my top 6 or so contacts on the (left or right) desktop. Then, from the main desktop, it'll be just "flick and click" to either call or text someone. I suppose this is faster than scrolling through a long list of contacts.

It would be nice to be able to have smaller icons-- like 6 across-- for this. Oh well...

PandaHome Dockbars allow up and down scrolling - you are able to insert individual contacts (set up as "direct dial" shortcuts). The nice thing is the dockbars move out of the way when not needed.

Thanks so much. This is really great. I like the dock bars a lot, and they also happen to be 7 icons tall, and I have 7 people I regularly contact, so I don't even need the scrolling.

I wish I didn't have to have this whole Pandahome thing installed just to use the dockbars, but "oh well". I guess I'll try to disable as much of it as I can.

You can also control the width and height of each sidebar. Glad it is working out for you :)

Has pandahome become more stable? I had an issue with it in the past, went to home++ but now that is giving a lot of force close

I have been having problems with the latest couple of releases of Panda buy luckily have a backup of a release from about a week ago (I think the first v1.80 if I am not mistaken). That one has worked fine for me. It seems everyone has a different experience.

I didn't see the favorites list at first, but may use it (as long as it's static, not dynamically-updated, which would be annoying).

For now I just have direct-text and direct-dial shortcuts on my 2nd home screen. It's very quick and no clutter on the home screen.

it's static if you 'star' them. once you do that, you can create a folder on your home screen that opens just your starred contacts.
