Should I get an Evo now or wait?

I am ready to get my first Android phone. I been using Windows phone all my life.

I was going to get the Arrive but was so disappointed. SO I was going to get an EVO, then I remember the 3G. So now I cant get anything.

I don't get it? You remembered the 3G? Are you referring to the $10 unlimited data charge?

I was a former windows mobile phone and swore by physical qwerty keyboard phones...that is, until I got my EVO! By far the BEST cell phone I've ever had...ever...and even my friends who saw me suffer through windows mobile compliment how good the EVO is, even though they're die-hard iPhone users.

This is likely a typo. I assume he meant to type "3D" as in "... then I remembered the [EVO 3D]". Just a guess :)

Yeah, I was assuming it was a typo, but I don't like assuming things. I thought maybe he was saying "4G" as in the charge for premier data (or unlimited data...whatever Sprint is calling it) that people think is for "4G."

OK, So my (Sprint) Pre's is getting to be more a royal pain , with it's age and me dropping it once every other week, or so:cool:. I'm due for an upgrade in May and am already getting impatient about a new device. HP/Palm lost me by not supporting the original Pre's anymore , so I'm not waiting for the Pre 3. I'm thinking the price for the 3D has got to be at least 250, and not sure I want to wait and spend the extra $$$ to get the latest/greatest. And after reading a coupla threads, I wonder if the EVO 4G would be the best bet, or should I get the Nexus S 4G, or maybe even save some more bucks and get the Shift ? I'd even consider the 3D if I knew the price would be the same (however doubtful), but I don't think I want to wait more than a month or so... I waffle:thinking: from one to the next almost daily, so any and all advice/recommendations would be welcome. Thx!

At this point, unless you're in love with the kickstand, I would wait for the Evo3D to be released over a Evo4G today. The 2 year plan price from Sprint should be the same, though the 4G will doubtlessly be dropped in price to blow out supplies on or near the 3D's release. The shift is fine if you need a hard keyboard, but the Evo3D will be a beast in comparison. I won't recommend a Samsung Android phone, even a Nexus, after owning a Moment and an Epic. I'll leave it at that.

I was originally with Sprint for a couple years and switched over to Verizon and got the Thunderbolt. AMAZING PHONE. During the 14 day trial period i got my bill for two months and laughed thinking im not paying that much for a phone even with my 22% Group Health Discount so i shut down the thunderbolt and had them (sprint) take the hold off of my blackberry tour. So now i worked Sprint into feeling bad since i switched and came back and they re set my account so i can upgrade at any time. Is the Evo even though 4G, worth upgrading to right now>? Seems like it would be out of date ish to the thunderbolt. So my question is: Should i get the evo or when the EVO3D4G comes out get that? Or will they be coming out with another type of EVO to compete with the Thunderbolt?

Evo is still a solid device but it's not worth $199 anymore. If you can find a good deal on one it's a nice idea. Lots of better phones are coming out this year.

Slightly off topic: How does anyone sign up for phone service without looking up how much it costs?

figured the same. Prices i looked at were different and was not able to get the deal the family friend who worked at Verizon said we could.

The Evo 3D beats out the Thunderbolt on specs even without the 3D stuff. Official release date has not been announced. All we know is "this summer."

Do you know how much your Sprint plan will be? I can tell you that:

$80/mo for the cheapest data plan available.

That breaks down to $69.99 (base plan) + $10 (because Sprint's marketing dept is dumb) + $0.01 (imaginary anti-penny that makes us think that $79.99 is SOOO much cheaper than $80.00).

I purchased the Evo 4g a week ago and am doing more research now. I know a little backwards but I was so sick of my palm pre and it really failed the day I was getting the evo switch done. I am a zero customer and had to make sure to retain my plan. Anyways I paid $200 for the phone plus contract but it seems I should be able to get one on eBay or Craigslist for the same price without contract which is more ideal. I don't think the evo 3SOME is going to be a likely upgrade but I can save my upgrade for either black Friday/ cyber Monday if there is a great deal on something or wait until the CITA next year which is the next major time anyone here expects to have something worthy of upgrading to right? I had just signed a contract a few months before I learned about the evo and it really threw off my contract schedule and I don't have the funds to buy phones ooc. If you were in a similar situation does this sound like a good plan?

This is also my intro message. I'm Danielle and I love my rooted evo. :)

and I agree that plan sounds very good.... i have told others to do the same. you can then resell the used evo back on craigslist when you get the next phone....

I was waiting for the thunderbolt to come out a couple months ago, and seen a evo on craigslist for 200. I got under my friends extra account, no contract and even got insurance on the phone. When I bought the evo I figured I would just wait a new dual core in a few months, but with it rooted I think I will be happy until something great next year. I think Craigslist is a great option I am very happy with no contract.

thats what i was thinking too. i might be able to squeeze my way through this contract and be able to get the hottest phone thanksgiving 2012 after the summer hype has died down (and bugs get worked out) but I am hoping this option will reduce my hassle with sprint since haggling for a new contract several months early could totally wreck my plans and leave me in the same position in april 2013. i also know that the evo is pretty powerful. considering they unveiled the view with a 1.5 mhz processor i wouldn't guess that will be an option on a phone maybe in 2013 which would put me comfortably getting the evo without contract now, resigning a contract (with whatever i want to try or resell or get a brand new evo and sell the used one) in November 2011 and a new phone by Sept. I hate spending more time and money than i have to on such a fast industry with so many basic life needs so thanks for the affirmation and rec.

thanks for merging Early
