Root From Aosp back to sense... question?

So I just flashed back to konis 3 from omgb.. when I was on omgb I had about 31% battery right before flashing.... when i rebooted my phone with konis it showed 40% battery.... wtf? Im guessing I need to recalibrate my battery... right? So how do I do I go about it?

That shouldnt be necessary, im betting that its either from the old rom being pessimistic, and/or the new roms being optimistic. I dont think its your battery is the short version lol

Lol.... true I will give my netarchy kernel a couple days to settle in... I loved the cyanogen kernel... 20 hrs of batt power... but the rom was too glitchy.....thanks bro....

if you flash a lot it may be a hassle to do this but from reading up on numerous threads on roms, kernels and battery charge on the XDA, I find it helpful and get best results from calibrating after flashing a new rom or kernel. a few charge cycles work best.

there are many different but similar methods here are a few.


These methods are meant to help increase battery life. I take no responsibility if it doesn't work or your phone explodes, you get eaten by aliens, etc.



Method #1:
1) Plug in and charge until LED turns green.
2) Unplug for a few minutes, then plug again until green.
3) Check battery stats to verify it says that the battery is full (while still plugged in).
4) Reboot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
5) Boot fully into phone, then unplug.
6) Use phone until it shuts itself off.
7) Turn on again and again while taking battery in and out of phone. Keep turning on until it won't even power up for a second.
8) Keep phone plugged in until fully charged (LED turns green).
9) Turn on and use normally for a few charge cycles.


Method #2:
1) Turn your device ON and charge the device for 8 hours or more.
2) Unplug the device, turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour.
3) Unplug the device and turn ON.
4) Wait 2 minutes, turn OFF, and charge for another hour. "Your battery life should almost double."


Method #3:
1) With the phone on, fully charge the battery (until the LED turns green).
2) Once the LED turns green, unplug the charger until the LED goes off.
3) After the LED goes off, plug the charger back in.
4) When the LED turns green, power off the phone.
5) With the phone fully powered off, unplug the charger.
6) Wait until the LED goes off, then plug the charger back in until the LED turns green.
7) When it turns green, unplug the charger again and go to step 5.
8) Repeat steps 5 through 7 ten times. This may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes per cycle. It typically takes only about 1 minute, though.
9) Reboot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
10) Reboot and enjoy!

Sorry to randomly come in here but what is your guys best advice for a ROM/Kernel to make my battery last super long, I cant get it to last more then 6 hours!


I don't know about you Sokoto... last time poor evomatt was at his wits end trying to find a solution to a problem of yours that really was not a problem... are you sure its 6 hrs and not 12 or 18? Lmao... :)...

I have class from 7:45-1:30 dont have any outlets or chance to charge it, trust me If I could I would, I think I found a kernel, Ill check it out when i get home and post it in my other thread to see what you think.

fair enough, but dont ya think that there has to be a way to get the claimed 30 hrs that other users are bragging about? or do you think that they are just not using the thing just so they can post a huge number?
edit: and im not suggesting that we should be able to get 30 hrs out of it given average usage, but i wouldnt mind if my phone had likw 30% left by 2 am when i unplug it at 8 am.... and why is it that we arent supposed to leave it plugged in all night? ive read about this in a couple places, and folks are saying to charge it only when it needs it(and if youre worried about the alarms not sounding in the am cuz your battery is flat) and putting it in airplane mode when you go to bed (which, i thought, disabled the alarms anyways)

I think letting the kernel settle helps a lot. Since I've rooted my Evo, I would say I have flashed a new ROM or kernel at least every other day, probably more frequent than that. However, last week I stayed on CM7 RC4 and Tiamat 3.3.4 for like 5 straight days with no mods. I actually went like 26 hours before I plugged my phone in, and it was at 20%. With that said, I didn't use it a whole lot. If I use it a lot, I can get about 16 hours I suppose, but I'm not the type to just run it all day either, so my definition of "heavy usage" might be "moderate usage" for others. So it just all depends really.

And at the end of the day, if you're getting 2 days of battery out of your phone, you're not using it.

With moderate usage in spurts (ie: angry birds, ant smasher, checking/sending emails, sending/receiving texts, phone calls, and browsing the web) I can easily get 2 days out of my Evo. Now if I'm hardly using my phone and it's idling a lot more, I have gotten 3 days + on a single charge. I have a stock battery btw.

It seems that no matter what Rom/kernel combo I'm running I have to plug it in during the day. Which for me isn't that big of a deal since I'm usually in my car or home office. But still, when I see people claiming huge battery life with moderate to heavy usage, I don't see how.

Hey Frenchy, how much do you actually use your phone for voice calls? That seems to be a big drain for me. I use my phone for calls more than anything else. Could that be such a huge drain on my battery?

Dang. That's pretty impressive. I'm not sure I could get 2 full days out of my battery if I just let it sit on the kitchen table. I am trying out an SBC kernel now though so maybe that will give me better results. I've been strictly non SBC until now.

What tweaks/settings do you use?

Mizzou, I'm with you, I get nowhere near that battery life. But I do notice a difference with the SBC kernel. However, that only account for up to 10% battery drain when taken off the charger vs. Stock.

The usual, have "auto-syncing" turned off (I manually sync anything I need to), "auto brightness" turned off, I have 3G turned off unless I need to do something online or send MMS messages (keep in mind that you can still make phone calls and send/receive SMS messages while data is turned off). When I was on a sense-based ROM, I under/overclocked 245/1152 and had a screen off profile. Now I'm running Kings GB w/ Savagedzen 1.01 cfs no sbc kernel, have my CPU set to 245/729, Savagedzen governor (which is pretty much exactly the same ass the smartass governor, with an additional tweak, and my Evo feels much faster w/ those settings than it did when I was overclocking it at 1152 on a sense ROM; and I'm sure it's helping my battery life as well.
