Oh it is, the Android vs Apple war is starting to heat up.

Dont think Apple was prepared for the ground Android would make up in the last couple years.

Guess variety is beating out the "cool" factor.

Yes...but the one thing I can say that Apple will always have a leg up on (by having one device) is that the accessories are all the same and it makes it easier for outside manufacturers to release product quickly and sell in bulk.

I'd love for there to be universal stereo docks that could work for all android phones, just like products that are made for the iPhone.

Apple pundits like to point out that Android is "obviously" going to win more market share because there are so many android devices and android versions out there. Which is true. But the fact they are not acknowledging is that modern Android is actually quite good at what it does, and people are satisfied with Android as a smartphone OS.

If it were as simple as launching a ton of devices with a particular OS, then why is WP7 and WebOS at the bottom of the barrel? Why don't THEY launch more devices and versions to take over market share?

Hahaha...I remember the first time I saw that, after I got my EVO and I couldn't stop laughing...LOL. Still funny to this day (although, maybe not so funny since the EVO 3D without a case would need it too).

Nontheless, how great would it be if manufacturers could eventually start making speaker docks or other accessories of that nature that could work in conjunction with multiple android phones w/o having to plug in through mirco-usb?

A lot of that depends on Google and how much they want to force Manufacturers from fragmenting the hardware even more. I haven't looked into how much leverage Google has over the hardware, but I'd be all for a set of standardized guidelines that make an Android device an Android device.

Once that's set, third parties can go nuts creating cool accessories like speaker docks without having to create a special dock for all the devices out there.

iPhone/iPod accessories exist because the large number of devices existed, prompting that market's creation.

By the time any of these makers would standardize on what it takes to get similar docks and accessories, they'll hit on the bright idea of making their own little private similar accessories - and then wonder in amazement at why they'd fail to sell.

As fast as mobile tech is moving nowadays (updated phones every year), I hope manufacturers start to revise their frame of mind, as far as standardization is concerned.

but with usb.. changing port sizes every other year... if they can find a future proof design for at least 5 yrs... and they decide on a location...

maybe across one OEM.. they can make some good accessories.

One thing I hear so much from many iPhone Users, is about the multitude of Apps that they have PAID for, and how switching to Android means a loss of maybe a couple hundred dollars.

Not saying that Apple doesnt have great apps for the iPhone, but am I in a minority that has never paid for an app?

Sure the Evo has been my first and only Android, but I havent paid for a single app yet. And I dont feel like I am missing any vital app that I need on my Evo.

Not saying that paid apps are bad either.

fyi... amazon android market.. has been giving away free PAID apps everyday... i have gotten a lot of great apps.

Apple is taking over this thread! Part of their subliminal messaging. For all we know, Apple really made the iPlunge to keep us Android people thinking about it.

From what I can tell, Amazon will be doing an App a day everyday.

It's called "lock-in." Get you financially invested in the brand so that you become emotionally invested. This is psyche 101. To admit that you don't like the brand means you made a mistake or got ripped off.

And now that you're emotionally invested, Apple introduces phase two: make the device only work well with other devices of the same brand. Now you have to spend more money on the brand, and you become even MORE emotionally invested.

Now you are trapped. But Apple has done enough within the garden wall to create the illusion there's nothing worth leaving for. So you don't really FEEL trapped; in fact you may feel enlightened.

Amazing how much this parallels the methodology of the Church of Scientology.

This may be one of those cases.

In an effort to trip the great man up, someone once asked him at a cocktail party what the complementarity was to Truth (expecting it be falsehood, thereby exposing the triviality of his idea). Without any hesitation, Bohrs replied that the complementarity to Truth was Beauty. Since that moment, his principle has guided the thinking of a number of physicists using that concept in thought experiments.

So - rather than see the rosey or cynical side of the chance for this sort of standardization to yield a good outcome as an either/or, I'll just say either outcome is expected by nature of their complementarity.

Secret Apple lover EarlyMon? IDK, people are going to have their problems with software and hardware no matter what. I don't have any issues with Windows. My friends with Macs cannot seem to figure out how to get off caps lock. Some of my Windows friends cannot figure out why their computer won't turn on...then they realize their desktop isn't plugged in.

The Linux vs Apple vs Windoze battle will rage on for centuries. At least Windoze got their head out of their ass and significantly improved after Vista.

Because they're cool like that? Have to have the cool accessories if you're going to rock Apple don't ya know? I spent $15 maybe for my few rooted apps. No, make that $20. aCar was a little expensive along with Titanium.

Some of their higher end games are $10 a pop (or so). Ten games will get you to the hundred mark. Ten more and you now have hundreds.
In all seriousness, most of their apps worth using cost money. The wireless tether app (a must IMO) is $25 if I am not mistaken (this isn't from the appstore but they still charge you). While I had iPhone I probably totaled maybe $50 in apps (I used a website that always listed sale apps and pretty much only bought them when they were on sale - sometimes temporatily free). My Android apps total about $5.
