POLL: how much have you spent on apps?

i hear iphone users that have spent so much in apps that they dont want to leave the garden.

when i had windows mobile.. i could not or want to spend on any apps. maybe $10

with android ... i was so happy to find so many great apps..
i think i have spent about $25.. maybe $30.

so.. how much have you spent on apps??
not talking about music, movies, or books.

I've spent almost $30 over the the last 6 months. Keep in mind, I am using all the apps I bought on 2 devices as well.

Not sure on exact total but I'm definitely closing in on $100 if not there already. Just counted and I have 18 purchased apps that aren't even installed on my phone anymore. With most apps costing $1-3 dollars it definitely easy to get up there with out even thinking about it. I have had my phone for close to two years though so over that time its not so bad.

trinkets that my daughter ask for as we walk the mall, and end up in the trash.

and how hard these developers work on some of these applications. why not pay for an app i really like. and it is only $1.. or 3.

but i still try to use free ones that I find interesting.

This is my thought exactly. And to all the people who complain about how many apps are on the iphone compared to android need to realize that the devs go where the money is.

Just went through the Android Market site, and added it all up (excluding refunds)...

all of those $0.99 apps REALLY add up!
and the stupid 15-minute return policy, has really screwed me over more than once...

+ if I add my Gameloft games, that'd bring my total up to around $270 (I bought a few for my Droid X, and had to re-buy them for my Thunderbolt. Stupid Gameloft...)

I've spent close to $6 I think. I don't buy games when I can get emulators for tons of games I've loved in the past already. Plus I still need to beat all of the Angry Birds levels.

I've had a first generation Ipod Touch which I still use (my battery life sucks and I'm not going to root). I've only purchased apps when given a gift card. As it stands I have quite a few free apps and only 2 paid apps.

None really, so far. Most of the apps I need are all free. But then again, a lot of them are ad-supported, which I don't mind. So they're not really completely free, because developers can still make a bit of money.. As long as you don't block the ads, it's a win-win situation.

i completely agree with that. win-win.

but..
1. i do worry a little... about the data and info these apps take. but whatever.

2. some custom ROMs have built in ad-block cooked in. i am running one now... not because of this feature. so i feel a little guilty (very little but some).

I don't buy apps unless I really like it and find it is very useful. The developers must be very helpful and I want to support them or they have the best app and I want the full version, lol. I usually test out half a dozen of related apps and I'll have to use it for more than a handful of weeks before I buy the apps. Doing beta testings for apps or even reading the beta testing threads make me very appreciative of what the developers do I've also given (small) donations to developers too for tolken of appreciations ^_^
I love Android because we have a choice to use an ad-version or buy the app. For those that don't mind ads or can handle the light version, then the developers will get money through the ads. I don't judge those that use free ads...but I do when you use ad-blockers (You're excempted Dan...this time)

If the app is popular, I think ADs, in the long run gives the developers more money then us buying the app for $1 XD If you've read some of the articles, Angry Birds earn over a million a month from ADS! Angry Birds On Android Projected To Generate $1 Million Per Month In Advertising. Though I do get pissed at developers putting ads in inconvenient locations.

Yeah Ads can get the dev more money than a paid app over the life of an app. However not all apps have free versions available or just a trial version. These are usually made for a certian group of people however if it is an app you need for your phone paying for it is worth it.

Now that I see i am no longer the only one to vote for the 100+ category, I'll throw in my two cents (or maybe considerably more).

According to Appbrain I've spent $125.99 so far.
However, they are including:
-$25 (Approx) worth of paid apps that i picked up free from Amazon
-$27 worth of apps listed at current price, that I actually picked up at a discount (actually paid $12 for them)

HOWEVER, it doesn't include the $34 worth of Uninstalled/Useless stuff (that doesn't show up in appbrain) that i previously paid for when I had my Samsung Moment, including:
-$10 Locale and $4 worth of Locale plugins (I wish i could resell my rights to that crapware since Tasker has taken its place)
-$5 for Open Home and a skin


So I guess my true number (actually paid) hits somewhere around $120, although only $86 is currently installed.


Those big apps sure do take a toll! $7 for Tasker, $10 for DocumentsToGo (and $13 worth of other office-type apps), $5 for Titanium Backup, $10 for the US Code, and $10 for PhoneMyPC (Regretfully).

Well, with such a huge market investment, I won't be dumping Android... (Not that I ever would anyways).

I think it all has to do with mindset. People like spending money on tangible things, something they can touch or feel. I would argue that you are probably getting your $200 worth out of your phone during a lifetime than you are $10 from a game, at least in terms of hours of enjoyment per dollar spent. I have made about 250 hours worth of calls on my phone. In calls alone I have gotten over $1/hr in value, if you look at it that way.

I tend to go for apps with ads. I especially like it when they offer both versions, one free (adware) and one paid (ad free). This way, if I like it a lot and am annoyed enough with the ads I can choose to buy. If not, well, I can still be pretty happy that the dev gets something kicked to him/her from ad revenue.

Only thing that I don't feel the need to buy are games, lol. I'm kind of piss that the Asphalt 5 Demo is actually a trial I was find with 3 minutes of playing on it. Debating if I should buy it.
