No, it is fine as it is. It is a near perfect document. What we need to do is vote. Follow the issues and if those we elect do not do what we want, we fire them. We support candidates that have actually read the constitution.

Certainly do not need to draft a new Constitution because you can well imagine the kind of crap that would be added. Actually, there would be so much arguing, it would never see the light of day.

As far as I know, yes. Unless they ban fishing.

We will resolve the issue. A government "shutdown" is nothing new; it has happened five or six times since 1981. In 1981 and 1982, the shutdown lasted one day; in 1990, they were sent home over the three day weekend. In 1995 and 1996, it lasted a tad longer.

What bothers me is the pay for soldiers. Apparently, a bill is in the works to allow soldiers to be paid. Otherwise, no pay. Soldiers should be paid no matter what.

Medicare/Medicare recipients will be paid, however.

That is correct, the military does not get paid, if there is no government cash flow. Soldiers will get back paid, but will be taxed at the higher Clinton era 30 percent.

However, what is likely to happen here is a weekend long government shutdown. This will allow republicans to save face with the tea party by showing they had the guts to force the government shutdown, even if they didn't get the 100 billion in cuts. The deems get to safe face by showing they didn't cave in and will be able to tell their constituents that it was all the republican's fault. Then Sunday night, there will be a budget and no furloughs come Monday morning.

My moms in the army. Im an army brat no pay will hurt our familiy !. But since I stay with my uncle and aunt who work for nasa (engineers), If the politicians don't decide on a compromise I won't be eating stakes anytime soon.

That doesn't make sense. The tax tables don't change on a shutdown. They will pay the same tax rate.

However... if the shutdown crosses over the year end that means they will pay less in 2011 and pay more in 2012.

Hard to beleive it will be shut down that long.

Maybe... I'm not sure I'm buying it. Typical politician would do that but you have amateurs controlling it this time.

With only ~ 5 months left in the fiscal year that 100B is really ~40B. They had already agreed on around 34B which should've been close enough for both sides. However....

1) The tea party has already made Boehner back away from that number.
2) A segment of the republican party is using this budget bill to try to force social changes which the Dems will automatically not vote for.

I think it's a longer shutdown.

Bob, I must respectfully disagree that the Constitution is a near perfect document. It contains a lot of ambiguous language (i.e. the 2nd Amendment), leaves a huge gap regarding major powers between the federal government and state governments.

Many of the problems I see cannot be faulted to the drafters, who could not have envisioned a country of 50 states and over 300 million Americans because at the time it was drafted there were 13 states and roughly 3 million people. The document favored white landowning males and is far too difficult to amend or even clarify.

I do agree with your assertion that more people should vote and hold their elected officials accountable.

I would be interested to hear your comments in response to mine in a robust debate of the Constitution as currently drafted.

How do you figure the 2nd is ambiguous? I think the constitution is near perfect. It isn't meant to regulate every aspect of life. It's design is to give the people to power to keep their government working for the people. The real problem are lawyers that try to twist and skew what the constitution says.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like one party is trying to muscle change and the other party is trying to muscle for political gain? Do elections have consequences? I honestly do not know what the hold up is but I find that a hold up is better then business as usual.
