Why did YOU pick the Ascend over the Optimus?

Asking this out of curiosity!

I got the Ascend instead because with the mail-in rebate it would only cost $99. Also the screen is bigger and I liked the color more than the Optimus. I don't like the Optimus' color at all.

The Ascend and Optimus look like they both function the same, I haven't noticed any weird lag with my Ascend so I'm not sure how the Optimus would be better.

The Optimus wasn't available for Cricket at the time that I got my Ascend. With that being said, I will be switching to the Optimus by the 20th. The Optimus is faster, has better features, has 2.2, and is an all-around better phone than the Ascend (not that I'm putting down the Ascend). The only downside is that the Optimus C has not yet been rooted, therefore there are no custom ROMs. It doesn't really matter, though, because the Optimus is already plenty fast and I believe that it will soon be rooted and able to use custom ROMs like the Optimus V and other Optimus One devices.

I'm just not a big fan of the optimus. I'd rather wait and see what the ascend 2 is about when the final production models come out.
Yeah, it's really a love/hate thing. Any idea when the Ascend 2 will come out? I am VERY interested in that phone but the Samsung Galaxy Indulge is pulling me away from the Ascend 2 with its processor. The Galaxy Indulge, however, will surely be much more expensive than the Ascend 2, judging by it's MetroPCS price.

I think the Optimus C/M is a better/faster phone, but it was not out when i got my ascend from Cricket***, Ive played with the Optimus V from virgin mobile, and I like it alot. I heard it has two processors or dual-something, so it can run games faster. But the Ascend id a good starter phone, and i do like some features it has, like the scroller-ball.

The Optimus wasn't available when I got the Ascend in January. My wife bought it for me and, at that time, it was a choice between the Ascend and the Zio. If I'd been buying it, I would have bought the Zio back then but the Ascend is what my wife got me. Now, I'm glad she did since Cricket has dropped the Zio. I've seen the Optimus and I don't like the smaller screen. The lag doesn't bother me all that much. The difference between me and a lot of other folks is that I realize and acknowledge the limitations of the Ascend; basically, it is a low end Android phone. As I stated elsewhere, complaining about its speed is like buying a Pinto and bitching because it isn't a Mustang.

Is the Ascend really a low end phone? This is my first "fancy" phone.

It's for sure an upgrade from my Samsung Messager II.

People really think it sucks or something? I mean sheesh, what do you need it to do? I have internet, I can text, take pics, ect.........what do other higher end phones do? I love my Ascend.

The closest date I've heard is 2nd quarter 2011. The Indulge is supposed to be around $350. That is way too much for that phone. 3.2mp camera with no flash, no super amoled screen, crappy keyboard, cricket has no 4g which is the only reason for that phone to even exist on metro. Also, Samsung rarely gives updates. I really want the huawei ideos x5, but I'm doubtful we will get it now. I have a feeling the ascend 2 is the replacement.

As far as Android phone goes, yes, it is a low-end phone. Only 256mb of RAM, no dedicated GPU, runs at 60 Mhz. Compared to many Android phones, it is sluggish. BUT, we all love our Ascends, don't we?

Yes its really a low end phone lol. Its a great lil starter into the smart phone realm tho. It does most everything the highend models do, just not as fast n well as they do.

I love mine :D esp since I put cm7 on it :D

If I had known a little more about smart phones before I bought, and known what to compare it to, I would have gone with the Optimus V on Virgin Mobile, to be honest. The GPU is the one thing the Ascend is missing that would make the big difference between it being a "beginner" Android phone and a more respectable Android phone. The other thing that creates the gap between the Ascend and the Optimus is the fact that the Optimus has 512MB RAM, and the Ascend only has 256MB.

FYI, with regards to ROMs, the most anyone has been able to stably OC an Ascend to is just over 700Mhz, whereas at least one person I know who has an Optimus V is running a ROM that OC's to over 800Mhz with stability.
