Micro SD Card Size

If I'm not planning on keeping any music on my Inspire, is there really any need for a 32 GB Micro SD card, other than to have such a large amount of space?

I have a 32 GB on the way, but started thinking that without music (and really no other multimedia besides apps) I would probably never come close to filling it up. And seeing as you can get a 16 GB card for less than half the cost of a 32 GB, it seemed like it might be wise to return the 32 and just get a 16.

I'm thinking that even the stock 8 GB might be sufficient?

It depends on a few things.

1) How long you plan to keep your phone, in which case, buy as much storage as you can afford.

2) The size of your data, media, and other files and how many more you plan to accumulate.

3) Remember that you can always use that card in a variety of other devices should you upgrade your phone earlier than planned. It's so easy to remove and replace you may end of with two at some point.

4) Finally and _Most Important_ of all they CAN and _DO FAIL_

A concept that many are in total denial about. There is nothing worse than to have valuable pictures, music and other files, only to one day see a message "this card cannot be read".

It's happened to me so I know first hand. It's a horrible experience.

My solution?

I put the card in my laptop and back it up, to an external USB hard drive, once a week or whenever I've added anything more than just a few files.

When I purchased my Captivate a while back, I really wanted to buy a 32GB card cos I wanted to toss my old and dying iPod classic and use my phone has my iPod in and out of my car (I hate the radio). Since the 32GB were prettttty pricey when they first came out, I decided to just get a 16GB and see how that would do. I ended up deciding to keep my iPod til it completely fails me, and have since never even came clase to 16GB. Of course it all comes down to the user and how much data they wanna put on their phone, but for a 16GB card, I'm able to snap 5k+ pictures (not even close yet) and have about 10-15 apps on my phone and still not even close to 16GB. If you're not planning on using your phone has a media device for movies, music, etc., I think an 8-16GB card should do just fine.

And as Aatos said above, back them up. I personally haven't had any problems with my microSD cards, but I know people who have and who have lost precious pictures and video. Always a good idea to back your data up.

No idea on the number of apps. But it seems that most if them aren't that large - or at least to the extent that I could download enough to fill up 32 GB.

So far I've downloaded about 48 apps and I've got about 880 mb left on the internal storage and nothing moved over to the 8 gb that came included

I had an SD card fail me... big speed 8gb I'd gotten a month prior...air I was w/ in warranty period... but being overseas it just wasn't worth the hassle... thankfully few if any photos where lost...

But no unless you plan on putting music. On I doubt you'll fill even the 8gb card.

Sorry to break it to you, but a 32 GB micro SD card for $23 is most likely a scam, especially from Ebay. A true 32 GB card would cost more like $70-100+.
If I were you, I'd try to return it.

Holy jeez, I hope it was from a reputable seller and not from China. 32gb card for $23 bucks is unheard of. Good luck with that card, I hope it has the size stated.

I got ripped buying cheap replacement batteries on ebay.

they said 1600mAh, but only charged to about 820mAh. when I told them about it, they said they;d refund my $ that I paid, but NOT to leave negative feedback. Instead, I left NEUTRAL feedback, but I put the comment about the battery being not full capacity. Funny how they begged for me not to leave neg feedback.

amazingly, they DID NOT want me to return the batteries (I wouldn't have anyway...all the way to China again?)

i'd never buy memory, memory cards, hard drives, or any sensitive electronic stuff like that off Ebay.

You might want to start your ebay claim now. I paid $27 for 16gb class 6 from a site I always buy from. Like stated before 32gb is $70-100.

You should have left negative feedback anyway. This one guy I bought a bluetooth from that said new (in the description) said refurb right on the headset, and I tried to return it and he wanted ME to pay return shipping and then to try and bribe me not to leave negative feedback, he offered me $3...then he upped it to $5...I was sooo tempted (not)
