Hello, first off this is my first smart phone so ya.. but neway its an lg optimus m and it freezes/reboots on its own quite often.

I took it back to the metro store and they told me this would be normal untill i installed an app called advanced task killer. can anyone tell me if this is true?

thanks

You can try to change your phone for another one. I did it several times and still have the problem. It seems to go with the model. I haven't had this problem in a while, but it has happened several times. I'm scratching my head too..

I don't use task killers, I did that for a while. Android memory does not work like windows memory. If you search through the forums, you can get more details on that. I use CPU watchdog. If you have a bottleneck, it will probably be with your CPU. If a program causes too many problems, consider paying for the better version or deleting it. Else, deal with it -- like the rest of us. :(

Purchased an Optimus M on the 27th of February and the problems began immediately. Spoke with the independent dealer and he said it would go away if i reset it back to the original settings. Makes no sense since the problem started on day one...prior to any changes that I made to the phone. Anyway, I reset the phone but problem still exists. After 2 more weeks of this hassle, I went to a corporate store and the experience was awful. After waiting for over an hour, I attempted to explain the situation to the employee (and manager of the store) and they simply do not care period. They finally offered up a replacement but did not disclose that it was a refurbished phone...convenient details to leave out. After finding out they were offering a "used phone", I told them no way and then the manager told me that was all they could do. The manager actually just walked away from the conversation and had no interest in solving the problem. As of now, I still have my phone and am just dealing with the issue...don't use the phone much...10 to 20 minutes per day. I initially went to MetroPCS because I did not want locked into a 2 year contract with Verizon...just came off one. Looks like I will be heading back to one of the other companies (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile) and just bite the bullet. Dealing with MetroPCS in a nightmare so BE WARNED!! I Like the phone but the hassle (lies) are just too much!

Another thing they don't tell you, you cannot replace your phone within the 30 day window for a full refund now that you've exchanged for a refurb phone.

You will need to keep changing it out until you get a phone you can live with. I had the same experience, but the people at the corporate store treated me better. I demand respect from these fast-food rejects and they give it. I've taken many jobs from such losers and I don't get guff very often.

Just go in there with an attitude and be mean.

Also, you can tell the difference between a refurb and a new phone by the color on the little plastic button covers. Green is refurb. I believe it was yellow or orange that were new, I've only seen a new Optimus M once. I've seen more than 10 refurbs.

Wow you can be a meanie head (better?). First that is how the warranty is, sorry, it is not Metros fault, its LGs warranty, if you go thru them, they will give you a refurb too. Second, fast-food rejects? I actually came from fast food to work here, its actually a better job. If someone like you came into my store, you would get nothing from me. I
t is a software issue on LGs part. They should be coming out with an update soon, hopefully. I have the Opt M and have the same problems.

And I don't think you have seen a new Optimus ever, right out of the box, there are green stickers on it along with clear stickers beside the screen and on the front buttons. Refurbs come with green or no stickers at all sometimes.

  • Excuse me if I offended you. I was not impressed by the employees I met at my local store. If you are of higher caliber, then my statements do not apply to you and you should not take offense.
  • Let me get this straight, Metro's policies are not Metro's responsibility? Who sets these polices, then, Sprint or AT&T? Whose fault is it then? I'm such an ass that I can't reason it out...
  • If someone like me came into your store and you gave me this guff, you would not have a job. If you worked for my company and I found out you posted this message in a public forum, I would fire you. I suggest you edit your post. But, I'm just an ass, right?
  • Excuse me, but I said the refurbs came with green stickers above. Reading my posts before you respond would help you make sense.
  • If you presume to use insutling language with me again then my next retort may not be as polite. Thank you for your understanding.

BTW, by saying that it is your expert opinion--since you work at Metro--that I have never seen a phone out of the box, you put your company in an awkward position if I subpoena your IP address and file a law suit against Metro for not giving me a new phone.

Also, your attitude and response only confirms negative biases your company's customers might already have about Metro PCS. This is not something that fosters job security. I'm not sure what your employment contact clauses look like, but if your post constitutes a breech, and Metro could subpena your IP, your life could become interesting.

These are a few things you should think about before you presume to call me an ass.

I did not do anything that breaches company policy. I am on here just like you to learn about androids and to post what you know to further help people who have this phone.
There are specific warranty policies where ever you go. Most these policies are manufacture policies. Say you buy a brand new blackberry from Verizon and your speaker goes out after 3 weeks, they don't just crack a box and give you a brand new phone, they give you a refurb because it is Blackberrys warranty not Verizon's. Metro provides a service, they don't make the phones. Sure they sell them but its a business, businesses have policies. Not everyone agrees with these policies but they unfortunately have to be followed. And new a new Optimus has green stickers, there are no orange or yellow. I am not trying to offend you, just trying to be helpful in a very frustrating situation.

My experience with trying to exchange a phone at a corporate store went like this:
I explained the rebooting/freezing problem. along with a couple of other issues.
Their policy was to do a Hard Reset and if that didn't fix the issue, bring it back in and they would exchange it.
I had two problems with that policy.

  1. I had already done a hard reset but they had to have verification that it was done which meant they had to do it on site and document it.
  2. The explained inconvenience of having to spend about another 2 hours taking it back for the exchange, 1 hour drive to and from and 1 hour in the store.
Not very convenient or customer friendly. I could understand a policy like that to stop people from exchanging one model for another, but not exchanging the same phone.
Just let me exchange the phone and be on my way, don't MAKE me come back, or at the very least make it so a phone support call could document a Hard Reset before I'm asked to waste 4 hours of my time for a CYA policy.

I guess after reading these posts, and multiple others that it appears to be an issue with LG, I assume somewhere probably where the CPU might not be responding correctly to the amount of data fed to it, just like a slow computer. Freeeezzze. Reboot.

My phone does freeze/reboot, for the first few days it happened while it was plugged in the car adapter while I was talking, if I tilted the phone I would get a buzzz sound and then blackscreen restart. I stopped tilting the phone and unplugged it from the charger when I needed to talk - issue solved. Still, appears to be an LG issue and they need to figure a fix. I assuming in that situation the phone had some type of power surge because if you pull on the phone the plug comes out rather quickly.

Second, I noticed most reboots if I try to do too much at once, Example would be see the data arrows both solid, trying to run seesmic back and forth with the facebook app from the market and sliding back and forth from the home screens looking for other apps. The optimus is a low-to-mid range android, that being said is probably why I get freezes. I want it to do a lot more than LG intended it to do. I love the Android operating system and rooted a Droid 1 from Verizon with Cyanogen mod, if my usb port wasn't messed up and it read correctly I would flash that phone to metro, but it doesnt work.

I think everyone should complain to LG and let them know that their phones should be better built.

On the other hand as a consumer relius and the others have every right to be upset if MetroPCS instore customer service is rude/adrupt/non-caring. We are living in a society where customer service is everything for a company image. If a local manager got rude with me I would write a corporate letter, write to it's investors/partners/stockholders asking them if they want to be part of a sinking ship? Bad customer service is not the way to go.

Even if MetroPCS doesn't want to take responsibility for a manufactuer defect of a product they knowingly sell a few things here :

1) If MetroPCS is aware of complaints of the Optimus then they are knowingly intending to defraud/mis-advertise a product ie, false advertisement. If they are aware of an issue offer a permanent fix, or comparable replacement (same cost)

2) MetroPCS should take the time and walk the customers through a process of contacting LG for support on a product replacement/warranty. Step by step. Yes I pay you monthly, hold my hand and walk me through the process. Give me ticket numbers, set up the claim FOR me. I pay you. You use my money to pay your hourly wages now your employees who are paid with my money should walk me through the process and help me.

other than that, metropcs has great pricing for its service but now that they are gaining ground they have a responsibility to revamp their customer service issues.

Has that happened to anyone?

I have a stock 2.2 phone that I got in December, and I love it. I bought another one last week, and it came with 2.2.1. Constant freezing.
We haven't exactly questioned everyone but those who have mentioned their version on these forums seem to be on 2.2.1.

And I'd take that new one back before they give you a headache trying to return it.

I have version 2.2.1 bought march 1st I never had any problems with freezing/rebooting until very recently. It only happens when im playing solitaire Never any other time there is nothing else going on. Far as I know no other processes, other then normal background.
So far over 2 weeks it has rebooted 4 times.

4 times over 2 weeks is good compared to other complaints. My phone personally has reset over 10 times (that i counted) and tomorrow makes only a week.

Had I read up on the clearly defective LG Optimus M I never would have bought this piece of garbage. It seems like it could be a nice phone-- if I was able to use it for more than a couple minutes without it restarting or giving me a "force close" error message. For me, it happens almost every time I try to send a text message, but it's also happened with every single program I've used. Even during calls.

My phone started this problem immediately and I brought it back to the vendor the next day. It was brand new. They did the hard reset thing, which is pointless, and I gave LG and Metro the benefit of the doubt. That was a mistake. I should have returned it. The defects got worse and worse. Metro Customer service directed me to a corporate store, which would be four hours away. My understanding is that they don't help anyway. I tried all the suggestions I've seen online involving sd cards, but nothing helps.

I'm pretty angry about this, and am thinking of switching back to my old simple phone, since at least I was able to get a text message out without three restarts in a row. I won't miss any of the apps because I couldn't use them anyway.

I will never, ever buy another LG product again and will recommend that nobody else does either.

I disagree with you. This optimous m has been great. Update the rom to a new one and your problems go away.

Unless he just got a defective phone, and that is entirely possible, if it is still doing that I would take it back and tell them to replace it. Be insistent.

On another note, I wiped my phone and upgraded to the cm7 rom then ended up going back to the teamchickeneater rom and I have not had a single reboot or freeze of any kind. I think I had a program that was causing the problem. Or possibly it was the O/S trying to run things from the sd card I dont know. maybe a coding issue hard to say. bad flash of previous rom?

I have no idea how I would upgrade a rom. If you think it would solve the problem, can you direct me to some information?

I'm glad you got one that works, but my phone is brand new. It should not be so defective out of the box.

The phone alarm didn't go off today because the clock program failed during the night, so I am late today. The alarm has to be one of the simplest things on a phone.

These phones are weird sometimes just like computers, I had sense rom for a couple of days it worked ok but some things would be buggy, So i flashed the cm 7 rom and eerything worked fine. the cm7 has some bugs but i have worked around them, The phone is flawless now except for the
dial up speed, i refuse to use that crap, I just wait till i get home and use wireless if needed.
