YouTube not working / device not supported

Soo I bought a Nexus S a couple of days ago. Everything's been working pretty well, except for one thing: YouTube. Playing videos through the browser doesn't work, when I go to the mobile site it says my device is not supported, YouTube doesn't show up in Market, and even though App manager tells me YouTube is installed, it's nowhere to be found.

On top of that, Samsung doesn't offer support for the Nexus S out here, so that's very useful.

If anyone has any ideas on how to sort this out, please tell me. A Google phone should have YouTube shouldn't it? >=(

Oh btw, how do you change file associations on this thing? Android told me I can change them in Home Settings > Applications > Manage applications, but I can't figure out how o_O.

Thanks in advance!

Well I sorted it out. It had shown in the App management thingy all along but I couldn't get it to work. Apparently the problem was caused by Firefox being set as my default browser over the stock Android browser. YouTube works perfectly fine in the stock browser now.

The YouTube app still doesn't show up though. It's in Manage apps but that's it. Could it be that it's just there to make the website work in the stock browser and not be an actual app, like the Office app the Nexus S came with?

Anyway, trying to look up the app on the Market gives me nothing either, and direct links to the app on Market give me an error message. Is the phone blocking it or something? I wouldn't know why; it's a Google phone for crying out loud!

Anyway, I'm gonna try getting the app installed through the apk posted a couple of posts up.

Thanks for the help guys!

Edit: LOL, loaded the YouTube.apk file onto the phone, started installing it. Gave me a message saying that this is a system app and asks me if I want to replace it. I hit OK, next screen is the overview of what rights the app wants. I hit the Install button... it doesn't work. The button just doesn't do anything. The Cancel button next to it works fine <_<.

Yeah that's exactly where i looked, and it's not there.

Try loading up a PDF file in Browser and see if it gives you the option to open it? It listed both Adobe Reader and ThinkFree for me to choose from.

Anyway, just tried to install the YouTube app again using the .apk provided a few posts up and it installed! The search feature doesn't work, but oh well.

Thanks guys!

Give it a week or two for the Android Marketplace to add GRI54 to its device list. Then you'll be able to install protected apps (which I'm guessing YouTube is one).

I had the same problem. The Youtube app was not visible in the app tray and the widget was not available. I installed the Youtube.apk file provided in one of the posts above.

The youtube app was still not visible in the app drawer. I went into the market, searched youtube, it showed it as installed, so I opened the app through the market.

Now the app icon is visible in the app drawer and it appears to be working correctly (no widget available, but I never used it anyway).
