What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

Headphones plugged in - Vibrate mode, media volume changes to 5 (to protect ears), display turns on (so I can quickly proceed to the media I was going to), auto-brightness turns on (for when I'm going outside and my normally dim display makes it hard to change songs)

....on exit - media volume changes to 0 and auto-brightness turns off

Incoming Call - In call volume goes to the max

....on exit - media volume changes to 0 (for when I was playing music and forget - the music continues to play, but doesn't blast when I hang up the call)

Received text - display turns on

App (Call confirm) - (on exit) - in call volumes goes to the max

Gmail notification - display turns on

USB Plugged in - display turns on, widgetlocker unlocks, status bar expands (to quickly access sd mounting - my default usb connection is "charge-only"), and after 10 seconds the status bar collapses again (in situations when I'm not sd mounting) and my device locks (widgetlocker)

Calendar notification - display turns on

App (Clock) - Load app (alarm clock plus) (so I can use the stock HTC clock/weather widget, hit the time and go to the alarm clock of my choice)

App (gallery) - load app (quickpic) (so I can go to the picture app of my choice when in the camera)

device shutdown - silent mode on (to silence boot sounds)

  • Reminder - Trash : At 9pm every Wednesday night(repeating every 20 minutes) IF my "Home" profile is active, I get a pop-up reminding me to take out the trash. The pop-up also gives me an option to end the reminders if I have taken the trash out.
  • Airplane Mode : If my cell signal drops too low, airplane mode will be triggered. Every 7 minutes, the profile will stop - if there is still low signal, the profile will be reactivated. (*I am having a hard time getting this to work... It seems to randomly activate, even though my signal-strength variable context, is set to only activate when my signal drops below 25% - I will have a few bars of 4G, and this profile will activate*)
  • Headset : I finally got around to making this basic profile, that will open a menu containing Amazon MP3 (I have my music in the cloud) and Pandora, whenever I connect a headset.

Added on 04/15/11

  • Applications - Games : When I launch any\all games, my media volume is set to 4 (what I almost ALWAYS set it to)
  • Applications - Games Night : When I launch any\all games between 11pm and 9am, the media volume is 0
  • Applications - Music : When I launch any\all music playing applications, the media volume sets itself to 12
  • Applications - Video : When I launch any\all video playing applications, the media volume sets itself to 9 - and autobrightness is forced.
  • Charging - Home Night : When charging my phone at home (determined by "cell near"), from 12:30am-8:30am (basically when I am sleeping): all sounds are silenced, brightness is brought down, and auto-rotation is turned off (If I look at my phone while in bed, and while it's charging, the screen-rotation is always wacky)
  • Charging - Not Home : When I am charging my phone NOT at home (determined by invert of "cell near"), all of my volumes are turned up (If I am not charging my phone at home, it will usually be charging somewhere AWAY from me - so I need the volumes up)
  • Grandparent's : When I am at one of my grandparent's house (determined by "cell near"), the phone connects to their WiFi, and my ringer/notification/media volumes gets adjusted.
  • Grandparent's Night : Same as above, just the volumes are on silent\vibrate
  • Grandparent's (2) : When I am at my other grandparent's house (determined by "cell near"), the phone connects to their WiFi, and my ringer/notification/media volumes gets adjusted.
  • Grandparent's Night (2) : Same as above, just the volumes are on silent\vibrate.

I love Tasker.

Added MANY more tasks, since my last update ;p

I have a simple\basic question: For my 4 "grandparent's" profiles, is there any way I can combine them? At least narrow them down to 2 profiles? Could I put the "cell near" location for both of my grandparent's houses in ONE profile, or would that then require that BOTH of those locations\contexts are met before the tasks are carried out? (This seems to be a VERY basic question, but I am having a brain-fart at the moment)

ok...my brain melted by around page 3 of this thread...seriously...*brain leaks out ears*

try as I may I cant seem to find the answer I want, or maybes its in this thread in between all the other jargon talking bout other profiles that I glossed over it (and if I did, im sorry)

I want to set tasker up to put my data connection on (3G not wifi) on every 2 hours, sync my email and *IF* possible FORCE sync my Fancy Widgets weather..

I currently run the more basic "Settings Profile" and it turns my net on every 4 hours and syncs my email but the weather is hit and miss...its not controllable at all via settings profile...so I have to rely on its on refresh times, which quite often are hit an miss widely sometimes and I often have to manually sync it...which annoys me..

so can someone please help? I DID try myself...but I managed to get part way through and then lost my way lol

ALSO as a small thing I have winamp set to run automatically on Settings Profile, but it doesnt play automatically just comes up....can I set tasker to actually PLAY my last track automatically with winamp...kinda like what poweramp has for default..

Glad to help!
If you (or anyone) would like the step-by-step to set up ANY of the profiles I use, I would be MORE than happy to post them (didn't post them initially, because that would have taken WAY too long :p)

Would you walk me through the one that turns GPS on when you open Maps?

I tried, following the below tutorial, but nothing happens. Also made one to turn on data when I open Mail. Nothing.

The Tasker icon is in the notification tray and the green check box is marked on each.

Any help appreciated. Here's the tutorial I followed. My screens match the screenshots ...

Would you mind posting your trash reminder, sounds a lot better than what I'm currently doing, TYIA

UPDATE: When the notification/status bar is pulled down, it says that no Tasker profiles are active. As I said, green boxes checked. Why not active?

The notification only shows tasks that are currently running, not the tasks that have a green check mark or not. So when your GPS profile is running (when you open Maps) the notification will show your GPS profile name.

As for wanting a walk through of creating a GPS profile, the link you provided does a fairly decent job of it already.

Task 1: "Done With Trash"
Profile Status. Name: "Reminder - Trash". Set: "Off"
Wait > 4 hours (long enough so the reminder won't reactivate, if you en d the reminders at the time of the first one)
Profile Status. Name: "Reminder - Trash". Set: "Off"

Context:
Day and time you want the reminders to go off
(I have it go off every Wednesday, from 21:00 to 1:00, reminding me every 15 minutes)

Main Task:
Notify Vibrate. Title: "Trash!"
Popup Task Names. Text: "Take Out The Trash!!". Task: "Done With Trash".

I have a few questions,

One of my task is my "work" profile, which puts my phone on vibrate where at my work location, but I am trying to figure out how make exception to that rule that that a couple of my contacts can ring though as well as their text messages but just 3 people.

Also, I have set up a profile where when I am busy I can just press my long search button and a SMS is suppose to be sent to the caller but it doesn't seem to be working. I have the Mytouch slide phone and my genius button is suppose to be the button to press but it doesn't work. I am rooted so I don't know if that is the problem.

Last question does Tasker only work with the default text message program as I have handcent.

I see what is posted above but I need it simplified a little.

I have a bed time profile that is only active when plugged in, I have a loud one that is always active, and a 3rd one a work one that is active M-F from 8am-4:30 PM. I want them all off when the bed one is active, I want the timed one to overide the other 2 and then go back to loud one once done.

I have it set up and it is working great with one exception: I want a sound and blink the notification light. I can't get both to work at the same time, just which ever one is listed first. Anyone know how to do both?

Periodic Data Check (Juicedefender Replacement) - Tasker Wiki

You might be able to use Synker (it works as a plugin for Tasker) to force syncing. It only works for certain things though.

I have a profile called auto sync that I use:

Context: Time 0500 to 2200 repeating every 3 hours
Task: Auto sync -> on
Wait 7 minutes
Auto sync -> off

I also use a second profile that turns auto sync on whenever my phone is plugged in and on my home Wifi

You can use an app called "Selective Silence" by ChainsDD that will allow you to have your phone ring from the callers you set regardless of the phone state (silent or ringer on)

Thanks I will look into that. I was trying not to add another app but to do it all with tasker.

Using GPS to look for your house in order to use wifi is a huge battery hog. I use a combination of two profiles. The first is the "Wifi near" context with my home SSID, and the task is to turn wifi on if it finds it. This will periodically toggle wifi on to search for my home network. If it finds it, it will turn wifi on. However, wifi will not stay on with this profile alone, so I created this second profile:

The context is "Wifi Connected" to my home SSID. The two tasks are "Wifi set to on" and "Variable set %HOMEWIFI to 1". The end tasks are "Variable Clear %HOMEWIFI", "Wait 5 minutes", and "Wifi set to off".

This turns wifi off if the home SSID is missing for over five minutes. I do this so it doesn't turn it off if I just run out to my car and it looses the signal temporarily. This should take care of your wifi issue (and 4G will toggle off if Wifi is on). I don't know how to toggle between 4G and 3G.

What is SSID and how to I find it?

Also do you guys have a way to turn my vibrate on when at the gym? I tried a location setting but it never really kicked in. I had it set to net only with a 300m radius and although it said it was activated it never changed the symbol on my notification bar. Or does Tasker just not change the notify bar icon unless you tell it to?

Ok so how do you get one profile to shut down another profile.
Inside the profile that you want to use (not the one you want shut down, add the Task:
+>Tasker>Profile Status>(Name=Profile you want to shut down, and Set=Off)

It may take a long time to recognize a location if you do not enter that location with GPS enabled. You may find better responsiveness if you have the GPS turned on during your drive to the gym (also, change your gym profile to include a task that turns GPS off when you get there).

Also if you don't mind I have a battery saver profile enabled but I would like for my mobile data and data sync to turn on every 40 minutes and check my stuff for 5 min before shutting off again during battery saver mode. Do you have an idea on how to add this to the current task list?
Setup the profile as you described, and insert
+>Tasker>Wait>*5min or 40min*
To make it wait in between checking.
