how's your SWYPE after FROYO?

I'm giving the SwiftKey free version a try, and so far I like it a lot. A friend suggested that the beta version from the SwiftKey site had better word recognition, etc, but when I clicked on the link to download the beta version it said that I wasn't allowed to download the file.

Is this another situation where AT&T is blocking the download for fear of losing their cut?

I decided to go right to the source due to me formerly loving swype and with 2.2 hating it finding garbled words etc.
So i emailed the company last nite and already today got two replies with the following instructions below. I asked if it would be temporary and eventually go bad again, they said no, due to an incompatibility with old swype data and new swype with 2.2 it had problems that should be rectified by clearing old data and starting anew.
I will lose my learned behaviour but that shouldnt take too long to get back in my dictionary.

from swype:

Please try going to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Swype and clicking the “Clear Data” button. This will reset Swype back to its original settings and clear your user dictionary which includes learned behavior.

Wow, thanks man! I was getting frustrated, and I did what you instructed. It works perfect, back to normal for me just testing it out for a few minutes. Thanks again!
i am glad for you (and me) and others it is working. i am very happy since i did what they said it is much faster and back to being accurate and it is learning my unique words again.
It is so rare i can help anyone since i am pretty basic in my knowledge on this stuff...so it feels good to repay a bit on this forum since so many have helped me many times before.
glad i could pass this on and kudos to Brian From swype who passed it on to me.

Hey folks, this is Brian R, the guy who handles the emails for SwypeInc and gave out those instructions :)

I'd really like your help with identifying and permanently squashing this issue. We know that it's a problem with old user data in the new version, but looking through our upgrade procedure we THOUGHT that the situation was handled properly. Apparently not.

Here's what I'm looking for:

1. The exact version number of Swype PRIOR to the Froyo update.
2. The new version number of Swype AFTER the Froyo update.
3. Someone who HAS NOT YET UPGRADED to Froyo to upload a copy of their /data/data/com.swype.android.inputmethod directory for us (this will require root to get. We know it's a longshot, but worth a try)
4. Someone who HAS NOT YET CLEARED SWYPE DATA to upload a copy of their /data/data/com.swype.android.inputmethod directory for us (again, this will require root, and if you have a nandroid backup from before doing the CLEAR DATA, you could restore that nandroid and grab the data directory from there)

If you're able to do items 3 or 4, we'll gladly send a Swype t-shirt your way!

Thanks in advance for the help. If you know any other Captivate users who might be able to assist us in this effort, please let them know about it!

You can email me directly regarding this issue via brian[dot]resnik[at]swypeinc[dot]com

Thanks!

EDIT: In case you're wondering why we don't have the version info ourselves, it's because we provide OEMs with a constantly updated link to download the latest version that's compatible with their devices. Which version the OEM grabs and ships on each device is often a mystery to us.

Hey guys! Question?
The advice brian from swype have that I passed in was good overall.one problem however.swype before I did what he said would offer up email addresses with only one our two letters punched in...now...I route in letters and nothing...just the little swype pop up window that forces me to choose over of the word suggestions and only then does email client pop up with email addresses to choose from?

Didn't do this before, it is making the simple task of composing an email tasker an extra step now....help????

A rather critical missing feature of Swype is the ability to list and edit the user dictionary. Due to the nature of how Swype auto-adds words I end up with tons of bogus, accidentally-added words that shouldn't be there. It'd be nice to show the dictionary and be able to clean it up without having to blow away all words and settings... or specifically know each word ahead of time in order to remove it one by one.

worse for me now is that it started highlighting two main choices in blue...so the little pop up window used to show just one it suggested now it is two? how in the heck can it give two? it ends up adding the first one listed anyhow and often it is not right.
i find i swype a whole sentence and often now i have 70-80% of it wrong...before i amazed onlookers as i lazily swyped all over the screen with very little effort and it was dead on................now...i am beginning to hate it.
why the heck did the suggestions help a bit initially but not now. wrong words...two many highlighted blue suggestions and just an all round pain in the butt experience.
i am hating swype right now.........literally hating it......

ok...rep who helped me before..brian..didnt reply to my follow up email...nor did he reply in this thread to my further issues...nor did anyone else actually....so i guess one of the main reasons i got an android for...swyping...is now a reason i must figure out a way to get rid of since its not working very well at all.
It is now at a point where i swype a paragraph and look back and i am lucky if i can get one third correct...used to be that it was almost all perfect.

Have you tried clearing all of Swype's app data yet as previously mentioned? This resets it back to its initial settings/config, losing all saved dictionary words and any inadvertently-changed settings.

hi, if you look up to the point in this thread where this advice was given on clearing data etc....you will see that it came from me...so to answer your question..yes...yes i did. I was the one who emailed swype directly and got a reply from brian R and he also asked if i would give him a link to the thread and he posted.
but after doing what he recommended my swype had to re learn words etc which was a pain but it was working pretty good and accurately..then slowly day by day it started messing up words at an alarming rate.
Now it is so bad i am lucky if i get even half the words right.
I also notice that now i must be extremely precise at trailing specifically over the exact letters of a word, whereas i used to lazily scroll ...er..sorry..swype...and it would dead on get the words.

i also when highlighting a mispelled dictionary word...and hitting swype button...no longer get an option to remove from dictionary?
edit..they changed it...you need to double tap..used to be you highlighted it...found this searching on internet as the help secion on swype doesnt even tell you this...or at least i couldnt find it..........sigh...
....lastly...it now keeps giving me suggestions in a pop up not when done but as you enter a letter at a time..irritating ..and worse? it highlights two blue choices...it used to give one and hitting space inserted...now it always inserts the top of the two blue choices and often its wrong...

i am really really exasperated by this as i am not that much of a techie and just want it to work like it did prior to 2.2

...i wonder if those now posting that it fixed by following brians instructions have waited...took awhile before mine went haywire again...also am mad that i emailed brian and no reply this time....several days later......:(

for the love of god... it just gets worse.
on old swype before 2.2 that would tell you how to remove a word....which never made sense either..why not pop up with an option to remove right from that pop up...why make someone leave that window...purposely mispell a word...highlight it...ok...still with me?...then..then...after highlighting it you had to hit swype and confirm removal.
renewing insurance is easier

Edit: is there a program similar to swype..but that actually functions...that i can download...even for a fee from market? I have had it with swype. In the if it aint broke..dont fix it category..swype has gone haywire and is badly programmed. Suggestions for a new input method as i hate finger punching on stock android?

I'm with you. After clearing the data, I had to re-enter my words, and worked ok for a while. Then it started picking wrong words all the time, it's as if SWYPE has trouble "learning"....according to Brian R at Swype, they had given ATT/Samsung the SWYPE update and it's up to ATT to send out the update.....very frustrating.

what i don't get is emailing the company.....expecting to roll the dice on whether i would get a reply...then getting very quick (supposed) help from brian r....representing swype...then when his initial instructions worked and quickly regressed to being worse than ever...i get no reply to an email to him?
I followed up with an email back to him weeks later and nothing there and nothing here. I believe that a major portion of what we all get this phone for is browsing and filling in fields...and emailing or texting...filling in fields and with stock unit have choice of tapping...if i had wanted that i would have got a superior iphone which figures out words with alarming clarity or i would have got physical buttons on a blackberry.
i chose android and have the android or swype. I want my functioning swype back.
this sucks.

Have you posted in their support forums? I'm on my phone our I'd post the link, but if you google Swype Support Forums I'm sure it'll come right up. For the record my Swype is fine on Serendipity.
what is serendipity is that like a phone like captivate? i didnt post in their support forums but did get a email from there and that is how i got that guy from swype to reply the first time. I guess i can go on there again..and post in a forum but you would think the guy who works for the company and replied the first time and offered for me to follow up with any issues....would not disappear......
edit too funny at the top of their site i just visited for first time is a note about forum members and how they should contact brian for issues in bold!
Your suggestion is bringing me full circle to the guy who was helping then .....i have posted...lets see if we get some help here...from a quick look at their forum.....all the issues we have are showing up but not with solutions in most cases...........sigh
