Root Best Kernel/ROM for newbie?

Been scared to root since I got the Incredible on release day. Just rooted, but need a kernel/rom. All I want is wireless tether, adfree, and removing bloat. Don't care about anything else.

What would be the best kernel/rom? I can't find the hydra kernel anywhere.

you can get wireless tether with just rooting as I haven't added a rom yet but use wireless tether a lot and freeze the bloatware I don't need with Titanium..adfree sounds interesting though...

Inc is a geat phone as just got it a few weeks ago as a replacement for my defective eris which was also rooted/romed which I was happy with it but inc is much faster..

You don't need any special rom or kernel for those things. Just download the apps and use.

Thanks! I thought I needed a special kernel for wireless tether but I just went ahead and installed it---working great!

[ROM] Nothing Special (Plain) v1.3 (UPDATED 03/31/11) - xda-developers

Use the above ROM (eventually, move to the Peanut version if you want more customization). Start with that and I'll gladly help you with any questions you come up with.
