Root Help installing GB

I am currently running apex 1.4.1 Froyo, and want to switch to rooted GB. I understand that I need to sbf back to stock Froyo in order to install the latest GB correct? Is there some sort of master guide to going from a Rotted Froyo Rom to Rooted GB? It seems like im reading a few different methods in a couple different threads. Could some one point me in the right direction so i don't mess this up?

Rotted Froyo huh? Hehe. It does seem rotted after being on GB rooted. :)

There's a guide to sbf and a very easy guide to installing the already rooted GB build. Do you need to know how to sbf or just how to get rooted GB after sbf?

Edit: Nevermind...here are links to what needs to be done.

http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...d-x-root-guide-updated-april-18th-2011-a.html

Click on Roolers Guide to rooting.

Scroll down to the section on SBF and Backup...read "SBF with RSDlite".

Scroll back up to Root Method #1 Z4root (follow that).

Then scroll to the guide for creating a nandroid backup. Not only does that give you very important advice as to what you should do before ever flashing anything on your phone, you also get Droid X Bootstrapper, which is needed for the next step.

Go here: http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...erbread-2-3-3-4-5-588-install-patch-root.html

Follow the instructions in the first post.

You will be on the latest, rooted GB.

I'm confused as to which bootstrapper we should be running. I used to use Droid X Bootstrapper but then it was said we needed Droid 2 Bootstrap for going to GB so I'm now using that? Is this ok?

Yes that's fine but once on gb you can use the dx version as long as usb debugging is disabled

if you make a nandroid backup with droid 2 bootstrap in gb, coould you then, with usb debugging off, flash that backup using the droid x bootstrap in gb?

Yes, the bootstrappers take you to the same place. CWM. The nandroid backup and restores are kept in the same folder on your sdcard. Go ahead, any combo of the two that makes you happy. ;)

if you are coming from a ROM on Froyo, I would recommend doing a sbf. I went from Liberty 2.0.1 without doing a sbf and ran into alot of problems. Then it took three sbfs after that to get the rooted GB to install. Save yourself time troubleshooting and start with a sbf. It's REALLY easy, just follow the instructions.

I wanted to refresh myself on the creation of nandroid backup and usage but the link you gave is invalid.

OK, that's just weird. I tried linking to that guide several times and got the same result. I guess Roolers doesn't want to be linked directly too!

I changed my post to put you on the page that will get you to Roolers anyway.
