No, not yet. AT&T is running pre-release tests in the next few days, so by next week we will be seeing the cap lifted for upload speeds. So that will bring the Atrix up to other 3G phone speeds.

The upgrade to HSPA+ aka glorified 3G should be mid year, and LTE- well, probably city by city starting late in the year. AT&T's stance is that falling back on HSPA+ when losing LTE connection is way better than LTE available with Sprint and Verizon.

A lot of people are getting hung up on those numbers. What a lot of people don't realize because it gets buried beneath a mountain of misinformation is that even on the current HSPA capped network, when the Atrix was tested using website loading speeds, Youtube videos etc etc (basically real-world use) It was getting top scores against LTE phones on Vzn.

Where the LTE download/upload speeds come into play is when you start downloading/uploading large file sizes. Not a regular phone activity for most people.

I agree. I have seen pretty much all of the youtub videos, where they compared the Atrix with other phones, on different networks. Most of the time, when doing web browsing and watching flash videos, the Atrix won. Other times the Atrix lost, maybe by a second or two. In the real world, location, signal strength, which signal: Edge, 3G or 4G matters with these down load speeds and what stuff you've got running in the background. (Apps and widgets.)

Apps are small files, I haven't experienced an app yet that took a long time to download. Actually that's a lie I did once, but I was in a very deep basement of a large building complex surrounded by thick concrete tunnels. Nobody with me that day was getting a good connection.

If apps were several GB in size I'd be inclined to agree with you but they aren't. That's not really a vailid argument anyway since you probably don't even spend over 1% of your time downloading apps. Most real world use consists of browsing, email, voice, text, all of which the Atrix excels at. For heavier things like buffering streaming video (youtube) I haven't experienced any buffer lag that I wouldn't also get using my home broadband, and that's a server issue not a network issue.

Downloading apps over a 3G network always is slow for me. Especially when I'm updating several apps at once. My apps update pretty frequently. I always watch YouTube in HQ. What's the point of having a kick-ass display if you're not watching in HQ? What else do I do? Tether and watch Hulu on a long train ride. The phone is supposed to be HSPA+ capable anyway whether I use it everyday or not. What would really be kick-ass is if it upgraded to LTE later on.

I get the "be patient" concept but hoping AT&T will give me another credit, I'm paying for an unlimited H+ data plan and AT&T already admitted it's not turned on yet.

I'm waiting for the update if it comes at the end of April like they say I'm going to have them give me a credit for 2 months of billing for an H+ plan that wasn't even activated until the end of April.

Sure they do. There good for selling a phone and plan to a customer without good credit. Unlike Verizon that would require 500 or whatever down. See. It works out for everybody!

I did a speed test today, here in Chicago, and my lowest down load speed was 2.81 Mbps and the highest was 4.14 Mbps. Lowest upload speed was 0.33 Mbps and highest was 0.34 Mbps. (All using network.) Average down load speeds was 3.0 Mbps and upload average was 0.33 Mbps.

Trust me I understand what your saying, I went thru this last year with my Iphones. My Iphone 3GS was fine until the 4 came out, once updated the OS on the 3GS my uploads were cut in half but my Iphone 4 had a great upload. Called AT&T they said nothing changed that would have caused it my upload problems on the 3GS, I told them it was fine before updating to the new OS once the 4 came out.

Read my post don't think I typed 4G, I'll never understand why people on forums want to make stuff up!

So a 'leaked' update is already available. Wonder how long it will take us non rooted owners to get the official one.

I'm glad I decided to get the leaked Froyo version on my old Captivate rather than waiting for AT&T. I remember reading about the update being in October of 2010 and it was never released until March of this year I believe. AT&T sucks at pushing updates.
