Help Data usage question.

I don't use Facebook, but with Tweetcaster on a 15min refresh, a news widget updating every 3hrs, Gmail and Latitude doing their thing and a couple of web searches my daily usage wouldn't exceed 1MB.

Be warned... it's very difficult to be this restrained though, so find and make use of every open wifi hotspot you can. You may develop a coffee addiction but at least you'll save on the data charges! :)

Awesome, I mostly use wi-fi through out the day. Just when I'm out and things like that. Thanks :)

Hey Slug.

Don't intend to hijack this post but I'm experiencing data usage issues. Already have a post out there querying this.
The following two processes continually consume data.. always more than 50% of my usage for the day.
- DCS Utility Component (which has a ton of sub processes mentioned) used 960kb
- Dialer Storage (which has SIM Toolkit, Phone, Field Test) used 850kb

Have you noted either of these before?

Hi steel_dog,

I'm not running a Sense ROM at the moment so only Dialer Storage runs on my handset. It's used 184.8kB today.... 113.4kB sent and 71.7kB received.

My best advice is to disable ALL account syncing bar your Google account and observe the behaviour for a day, then add whatever else you want/need one at the time and see if it changes. I had a similar issue last week, using 18MB daily, and tracked it down to a news widget I'd added. Those RSS snipppits didn't look much on their own but soon mounted up over the course of a day.

Hey Slug,

Thanks for the suggestion.

Have turned off most things - especially anything that syncs contacts and found that the DCS service has dropped to ~180kb, however phone dialer is still high at ~400kb... but overall data use is down by 1mb... that's about 40% which is a great start. Will continue trying to get to the bottom of the issue.

SD.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Glad to help, and that you're getting a handle on the problem. The Google account shouldn't be the cause, as contacts, calendar etc are only synced when a change is made. The more likely scenario is something updating/polling periodically in the background. Not sure what Dialler Storage is doing with that data....
