What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

ok im going a lil insane over this...I am STILL trying to get the net to come up every 2 hours and also auto sync then as well...and it just ISN'T happening :(

I tried the suggestions here, mainly being the one sending me to the tasker wiki...and that doesnt help either....I tried putting their profiles on and editing them to remove the parts not needed, as I dont need the "On when screen comes on" bit or stuff similar...but that didnt work either :(

I even set up my own profile almost identical to how it is in "Settings Profile" the other tasker like app I use....and tasker just sits there, does nothing....I know its not tasker cos the headphone rule I have on works perfect..

I just cant see where im going wrong....I've tried using the "mobile Data" task and the "apn" task...neither work at all :(

someone please give me a lil assistance..

also I want to set it up so not only will it do all that automatically...but also turn the net on straight away if I say click the browser...and again....cant seem to do that...I set the rule to start app, then run apn/mobile data (tried both ways) and then added the kill task part...and again...nothing :(

Profile: Autosync
From 08:00 to 00:01
Repeat every 2 hours

Task:
Autosync = On
Wait 4 Minutes
Autosync = Off

That's all I did. What a battery saver!

Make sure this works then worry with trying to get your other thing working. Are you talking about Mobile Data or Wifi?

Edit: Can you create a profile based on time to repeat every few hours then a task to toggle Wifi or Mobile Data? That's how my Autosync works.

So after a while of tinkering I set up a few more things such as the guy above has. One will help me find my phone. One will lock it and send me all the info in the event it is stolen.

I also set up one where I can text the phone and have it call me back.
(I just finished with a few of these but need to wait before I can test them.)

Triggered by control word in SMS text.
Actions: End Call, Disp Brightness=0, Keyguard On: Silent On: System Vol=0, Call Mom's phone, Spkrphone On, wait 5 minutes and end call

Per the Wiki, I set up a notification for reminding me when I missed a text or phone call. It does vibrating so I need to see if I can figure out how to make it play a notification sound.

I just set my phone to turn off Mobile Data when connected to Wifi.

I've got a few set up for specific locations, turns off GPS until I plug the headset in that's in my car, changes wallpaper, volumes, etc.

I did the funny one where when you turn your phone face down it will say something through the speaker phone, such as "Does your crappy iPhone do this".

I've got a battery icon that updates every 5 minutes.

I've got an icon I can click on to disable keyguard.

And I'm about to work on other icons to enable and disable things rather than installing Quick Settings and other similar programs.

its mobile data, not wifi...and I CAN create a profile to repeat every few hours....but it doesnt work...and like I've said I've tried BOTH the "mobile data" task and the "apn" task, both found under the net tab...neither work..

I will try the auto sync think to make sure that works at least..

EDIT: Well I set the autosync profile up again....tasker says that there is no profile active...so no idea IF it will work at all....do I still leave the 'standard' auto sync on in the android settings? cos right now im keeping a constant connection to the net (as the apn thing wasn't working at all) so wouldn't everything just auto sync anyway, not the 2 hrs I've set it for....so how am i to tell if its working?

EDIT 2: just to see if It did work I reset the time values to now....and lo and behold....nothing >.< I think im just gonna go back to "Settings Profile" at this rate...it might not be as intuitive or as feature filled, but damn I could get it to do my internet properly..

Don't know if everyone noticed but there was a GREAT feature added in the last update. Android 2.2+ removed our ability to use Tasker to kill an app which was a total bummer. Now Tasker can kill apps again!! Root is required, but I can confirm it is working great. EXTREMELY happy with this latest update!!!!

Some other things also in that update, as long as you are rooted, is the ability to reboot or shutdown your device and the ability to control the CPU. :D

I was experiencing the same issue, then I tried using a plug in called widgetsoid with which Tasker would tell to turn on mobile data for 2 minutes while my other profile would turn on to do the auto syncing for 2 minutes...that worked and it does both every hour on the hour and after two minutes, it turns off mobile data and turns off auto sync.

I turn on my phone around 5 AM and turn if off to charge for the night around 10 PM when I go to bed, generally it still has about 30% left on the battery when I plug in the charger for the night.

...Anyway onto tasker i really couldnt work out the best way to activate each profile by location as i didnt want to leave gps on all the time so instead ive made 4 manual profiles which have widget shortcuts on the lock screen so they can easily be pressed which are working a treat

Home
Turn wifi on, turn 3g data off, set volume of ringer and notifications too 6 and alarm.

Work
Turn wifi off, turn 3g data on, set set volume of ringer and notifications too 2.

Out (when im out and about)
Turn wifi off, turn 3g data on, set set volume of ringer and notifications too 7.

Night
(mainly used for when i stay over at the missus's and dont plu my phone into charge)
Turn wifi off, turn 3g data off, set volume set volume of ringer and notifications too 0, set alarm vol too 3.

I know these are very basic but they work a treat for me and also look really good on the lock screen :D

Activate each one by State > "Cell Near". This context will determine your location by using local cell-tower data. It is EXTREMELY accurate, and Tasker scans for changes in your cell-tower location, every 30 seconds (it drains NO additional battery, since your phone is constantly updating it's cell-location as well).
With this Cell Near context, you can automate all of those profiles. For work, you can set the Cell Near location for your work place. Same with home, and night (with the additional context of time). Out, you can do Cell Near your work place, but INVERT the context - and also do Cell Near your home, and INVERT it... So whenever you are NOT at either of those places, your phone will activate the "Out" profile.

Hi Tumeg,

Couple of questions about the above profiles
  1. I tried making my own silent boot mode, which I used two profiles for.
    • The first one was the shutdown profile, which has:
      CONTEXT - Device Shutdown
TASK - Silent (Vibrate) [could also use Silent (No Vibrate), wouldn't make much of a difference, although thinking about it, Silent (No Vibrate) might eliminate the phone's tendancy to vibrate 10 seconds after switching it off].

However, this doesn't seem to work. The phone (Samsung Galaxy S) still makes its turn-off noise when you turn it off. However, when I turn the phone back on, the phone is THEN in silent mode. Do I need the context to occur at some event before turn-off? Or is it a problem with the handset itself? What do you use, Tumeg?
    • The second one was the boot-up profile, which has:
      CONTEXT - Device Boot
      TASK - Silent (End)

This works fine. It takes a while to activate (a minute after boot-up), but after that, I'm not on silent anymore
  2. Can you sync tasker with a To-Do List app? That'd be awesome!!

One more question:
  • I'd like to create an alarm using Tasker similar to the one found here. The standard tasker alarm found at the link works fine. However, I'd like to tweak it so that the snooze interval changes each time, choosing from a random time interval between 1 minute and 1 hour. Does Tasker have random number generators? Also, any chance of choosing a random track from my music library each time?

Thanks,

God bless =)

1. I am using an HTC Thunderbolt, and I do not experience those same problems. My Silent Boot profile is this simple: Context = Device Shutdown. Task = Silent Mode, Vibrate.

2. I do not believe there is a To-Do List app that currently syncs with Tasker, but I know Tasker is always working with other app devs to get the ability to use Tasker for\with certain apps (Like "Gentle Alarm" is now workable through Tasker)

3. I do not believe Tasker has a random number generator, but it really should! That is a great idea! As for choosing a random track - I have been trying to figure this one out, but have had no such luck :(

WOW! Really? The "Kill App" feature alone, makes me want to root my phone! Forget the roms, but Tasker being able to kill apps, and reboot\shutdown the phone, would make some things MUCH more convenient.

I have launcher pro and have screen 4 as default home, but I want tasker to switch to screen 7 when a certain condition is true. Can any one please tell me how to do this, im really confused and cant make it work :/

Thanks in advance

At this moment, Tasker cannot do that,

ok seriously this is REALLY annoying now :( I reinstalled tasker after reading elsewhere here that THAT could of been the issue. Once reinstalled they came with the normal menus up at the start an one had an example bout running net with the browser app....as in tap browser then net comes on...this was for wifi but I changed it to normal phone data..

and NOTHING works with it....widgetzoidd (plugin) on/off, apn (plugin) on/off, apn (under net setting) pn/off and finally mobile data (under net setting) on/off...

is there something im missing here because this CANT be right..that 4 different ways to get it to connect and NONE work? :|

I was thinking that if I can get the browser to auto come on fine then doing a auto data/auto sync profile will then be easier (as hell trying the suggestions on here and on the tasker wiki site have failed :()

so come on...help....anyway? please? :(

that would be great thanks and I hope it works as well, cos "Setting Profiles" just isnt that great...I mean it does the job but I want the extra features that tasker has..

Every hour on the hour I see my mobile data and auto sync light up on the widgetsoid widget that I have on my main screen, these profiles turn on for a total of 2 minutes then they both turn off.

This definitely works for me.

Now bear with me because I consider myself quite the rookie at this but I just exported my two profiles on my phone to my SD card for the first time, I then emailed those XML files to myself and then I placed them in a zip file that is attached to this posting.

Open up the zip and you will see both XML profile files, get those XML files onto your phone and into your Tasker profile folder and then just import them in Tasker from the menu under Profile Data>Import One Profile on the Tasker screen.

If this doesn't work for you, I am clueless.

...At this moment, Tasker cannot do that,

Are you sure?

tasker webpage said:
Home Screen Intent

Tasker's Go Home action can specify the page of the home screen which should be shown. To support this action, a home screen need only accept the extra

net.dinglisch.android.tasker.extras.HOME_PAGE
with the launch intent, the value being an integer from 1 to 20.
Tasker for Android

I think tasker and launcher pro have this function but I cant understand how to use it.

Interesting - learn something new everyday.
How don't you understand to use it? I just spent 2 minutes and got it to work. The "Go Home" task is under the "App" section of tasks.

Edit: sorry, didn't see the previous post(s)... Stupid Phandroid app makes me think I'm at the end of the thread, when I'm not ;(

OK, so here is one for the Tasker gurus. So now that I have my sprint number integrated with GV, I want to setup widgets to control what numbers my GV forwards to. I have the Locale google voice plug-in that works with both locale and tasker and allows for this type of control.

For me, rather than automate it based on location or whatever, I'd rather make widgets on my homescreen to change this manually.

I don't even know where to begin, but figure this could be pretty useful. Anyone want to help out?

This is the plug-in I want to use to do this:

Actually it does. There is the Variable Randomize action. For instance you would use:

Variable Randomize
- Name %MYSNOOZE (name of your chosen variable)
- Min 1 (smallest number to choose - 1 minute)
- Max 60 (greatest number - 60 minutes)

Each time you call this command, it will generate a random integer between Min and Max. Then just use this variable as the amount of time to snooze your alarm.

In your Snooze task, in the Wait command under Minutes, press the rotating arrows button above the plus sign and it allows you to enter a variable name instead of just the number slider.

So you would probably put the Variable Randomize task just before the Wait command in your Snooze task.

Glad to hear it :) If you wanted to be certain you could also use a Popup command and list %MYSNOOZE (or whatever you called it) between the two commands of Variable Randomized and Wait. For example: in the text box of a Popup command > Snoozing for %MYSNOOZE minutes. That way it will show you how many minutes it will snooze for.

Good idea, just to test it's working. But eventually, I'll use it for the surprise factor on myself. Long story =)
