battery drain 2.2 update

My wifes battery life was really awful after the update and i did a factory reset on the phone and now the battery life is back to were it was. You might have a app that is not 2.2 compatible or something that is draining it.

Complete smartphone/android/fascinate newbie here (started using the phone a couple of days ago -- right after I bought it, the 2.2 update was pushed to the phone). I've also been dismayed by the battery life.

How is a factory reset done? Does that remove your contacts?

Thanks.

You can drastically improve your battery life by doing the following:
-- no live wallpaper (mine is a black background and it saves energy).
-- no theme (theme is the biggest battery drain of all).
-- do not set auto-refresh on your apps. All my apps are set at manual refresh, including Twitter. The way I see it, if I am not using the app, I don't really need to refresh the data constantly.
-- set your Google sync (if you are using Google account) at 15 minutes or longer.

My battery consumption has been pretty good even when I was in 2.1.

Hope this helps.

Should I try this if I had to install a clean version of 2.1 before I could get the 2.2 OTA....did a factory reset right before 2.2? My battery is not too bad.....I get through a full day pretty easily

If my battery had been easily lasting a full day (as it had on 2.1) I would not have felt it necessary to do the backup/reset, from EarlyMon's thread I linked to.

The only reason I went through the factory reset was due to the fact that after updating to 2.2 I noticed a significant decrease in battery life (e.g. battery falling to below 25% after only 5-6 hrs. with very limited use).

I would assume that most users - like myself - did not have a clean version of 2.1 on their Fascinate when they updated, and just updated once the OTA was available.

Either way, if you do not see any performance/battery life issues after updating then you are probably fine. However if your phone is acting up and you are looking for solutions, then that thread might be a good place to start.

Ok so its official - Battery drain is REALLY BAD after the update. Both on my phone and my wifes.

I dont ever use my phone for anything - to be honest its a waste of money for me to have it...but I got it because of the buy one get one deal...anyway - I only text message my wife a few times a day and call her for 15 minutes on the way home from work. With 2.1 - if I used 1/8 of battery for the whole day it was on - I was lucky. Now after 2.2 - I use it exactly the same - and the battery is down to 1/2 when I get home. Thats 3 times more battery by only downloading 2.2 - I dont have very many apps(only Angry Birds) and I dont use any of them during work - I dont even use the live wall paper. So WTF ???

Now - On my wifes phone its much worse because she uses hers to go on to the internet during lunch - she usually goes on for 20 to 40 mins - with 2.1 - she would get home with about 1/3 to 1/4 battery left....now today with the exact same usage - her phone went into Safe Mode (never seen that before) - the battery was juiced by 3pm.....WTF ??

You guys to help a not very phone literate guy out on how to fix this....if I have to 'factory reset' - I read the directions on the above post and its seems very detailed.....not sure I will be able to handle it...but I need to do something for her phone at least.....I was perfectly happy with 2.1

It's actually a pretty easy process (trust me I am not super tech savvy myself).

If you and your wife don't have a whole lot of apps. and/or custom settings I would just make sure your contacts/calendar are backed up and document the free apps. you've downloaded to your phone that you want to keep, so you can re-download them (the Android Market will remember your paid apps. and you will be see them after you setup your Google account).

Afterwards you can do the factory reset and then set everything back to the way it was. There is some more detailed info in the thread (http://androidforums.com/fascinate-support-troubleshooting/323542-how-fix-froyo.html) which you can read prior to working through the tutorial.

I'm running the leaked version of froyo eb01, I've noticed this problem as well, so factory reset and saving apps and everything is super easy, get a app called my backup. It backups up everything from app data to contacts to call history to bookmarks, sadly, its not free, but if u r rooted, my backup root is the same app but different version that is free which only works on rooted phones.

Thanks - I am going to give this a shot Wednesday or Thursday night - Thanks for your help, but I may need some assistance as I go.

We dont have any paid apps and only have a few apps that we can redownload.

I ran it by the wife and the only question she had was if I have to redownload Angry Birds will she have to start all over again ?? I didnt know the answer ??
