How to share internet from desktop to phone

Hello ever1..

I'm looking for an android application which can help me to connect to internet using desktop's wired connection.

I dont have Wireless Router . So left option is bluetooth.
I have Bluetooth dongle , and i have shared internet over bluetooth.
but at phone end , i'm not finding an app to connect to internet over bluetooth..

Is it possible or not?

Wait im confused...you have a pc with a wired internet connection correct? And you want to use said wired connection to give your phone internet access? Do you not have a data plan?

There are many programs for the computer that will let you turn your computer's wifi into a wifi hotspot, thus allowing you to connect your phone to this wifi in order to access the internet. Connectify-Me is one that I use, and it works great.

I THINK he wants to use the wired internet connection on his computer to get internet on his phone...like reverse tethering as he has no router to share the signal with more than one device, but im not sure

yeah i would guess that his desktop doesn't have a wireless card in it, so he wants to connect his phone to his computer to use the internet.

I have no idea how to do this or if it's even possible. It seems like it should be though, but it's possible there's such low demand that no one's developed an app or anything for it.

(actually, instead of an app I'd imagine it's some kind of connection you have to set up... but who knows)

To all of you who don't see the purpose of reverse tethering (which is what the OP wants to do), please be quiet and just accept that we want an answer to this question. Many other threads discuss reverse tethering. It is something that is in demand but as of yet Android does not support.

A simple situation is this:

1) I'm on a metered data plan. There is no unlimited data plan available in my country. (Some people might just not want to pay for it.)
2) I don't have data when I'm travelling to other countries.

3) In either of the above situations, I am in a location with no wifi (e.g., the hotel has no wifi, my work office doesn't have wifi, etc.) However, I have a computer with a wired connection.


I want to be able to share my internet connection from the computer to my phone. Why? I want to not use mobile data (or I can't use mobile data) and I need to update something on my phone (like an app or something, or maybe I want to send a photo from my phone to someone).

There is software that you can use to make your computer into a wireless router, if you have a wifi card in the PC. However, on my work computer I don't have access to install it.

Not trying to be rude or anything amlothi, but where do you live? If you dont want to say thats fine I guess im just one of those people that thought most everyone at least had shot at unlimited data plans. You can tell me how dumb I am I just like to learn. Thanks

Buy a wireless router. They're cheap.

In the situation above, couldn't you just connect it to the wired connection in the hotel and create wifi for yourself in your room?

Hi, I'm new to this forum as well. I bought an HTC Desire about a month ago and only got a Data plan about 3 days ago. I too would like to do reverse tethering because my neighbour (who didn't want to share internet with me to begin with), has set a MAC Address lock on his WIFI router and therefore, I can only use my laptop.

It would be cool if reverse tethering would work. I suppose turning my laptop into a wifi hotspot would do it. Also, he has unlimited bandwidth, I don't. That's another reason to attempt this.

Really, how about the U.S.? Take a look at AT&T; they don't have unlimited anymore. Verizon and T-mobile have "unlimited" in the sense that they don't charge you for going over a soft cap but throttle the hell out of you when you do. Sprint is the only major carrier that I know of that has no sort of limitation on data usage.

this is possible using other phones. i remember my palmtreo phone, which i connect it in my pc using a usb data cable. my phone can access internet using my pc's internet connection. i also done some research if this is possible for android phones, and sad to say, its not yet possible.

Is there any reason to not just buy a router to begin with? They're fairly cheap anyway.

I think the telcos will actively sabotage the development and distribution of such an app because it would mean a lot more phonecalls over VoIP, and consequently a lot less phonecalls over their mobile phone systems. And that's where they make their fat profits! So an app like this would cost 'm a lot.
VoIP is already being 'throttled' – a eufemism for sabotaged – by many telcos/providers for that reason.

Just to clarify

Phone >> usb cable >> PC/Server >> Ethernet >> Internet


Preferably not having to root the phone.

No we don't want to use wifi or 3g for internet access. Just some
example reasons...

• Radio frequency restricted areas - hospitals, ammunition stores, planes
• EMF sensitised individuals, young people
• Wifi not permitted by corporate rules
• 3g access too expensive, out of range, too slow
• Covert operations, no RF transmission acceptable
• Phone used as mini-screen/interface in hardwired installations such
  as vehicles, boats, ships, submarines
• Upstream complex secure vpn links
• Wifi congestion or subnet full
• Wifi high power usage, need more solar panels & causes device overheat
• Mass phones being used as mini-kiosks in large scale installation.

There are many other possible scenarios. Wifi/3G is not the be-all end-all of internet access for these devices.



ASProxy has support for reverse tether, but has a lot of other baggage features, as it is primarily a proxy access product. It also requires root access.



Kevin Ko, author of Klink opines that it could be done without root, but is

not a quick hack and not one that I have time for at the moment

You can use virtualrouter to share your pc internet with your android. It converts the existing wireless card on your computer to a hot spot.

I am in the same boat as many of the posters here. I have access to a PC, I have a USB cable to connect my android phone to the same PC, I would like to use that cable as the connecting point to get internet. I do not want to turn the wireless radio on. I want to be able to browse the internet, on my phone, with airplane mode being active. I had a windows mobile device before and this was very easy to do. It is either doable or it is not. If someone has an answer, please let me know. Thank you.
