I just got my new G2X, and I love every aspect of it except for the battery life. I'm not really a big tech guy, but I have done some basic things such as decreasing the brightness, installing watchdog, turning off wifi, bt, gps, sync whenever I have to. But despite all this I still have to charge it twice a day. I do use more than average because I'm trying to get used to get all the features, but still I would expect more battery life. I've heard that you shouldn't use task killers, but do you guys have any other suggestions on how to extend the battery life?

Yeah I have had the same problems with the battery. Its nothing new though, had the same problems with the G1 as well.

I am pretty sure you can actually buy a battery with longer life on it, they had them for the G1 but were fairly expensive. What I do is just have a car charger that way on the way to work or where ever I have the option to charge it. Other than that, I cant think of anything else that you havent already stated (i.e. dim brightness, shut off gps, wifi, bt, etc).

Some people over on xda-developers.com have reported that doing a factory reset and a couple of deep discharge cycles has significantly improved their battery life. If you're going to do a factory reset, it's better to do it sooner rather than later, of course, because it's less repeated customization that you'll have to do, so you might want to give it a try.

I've done about 5 full charge/discharge cycles, and as with all my other phones, and extra OEM/extended batteries, I'm seeing much better usage. 6 hours off the charger, I'm at 89%, with wifi on, and logged into Skype the whole time...not bad.

FWIW, my Motorola Defy was upgraded to 2.2 on Friday, and is seeing similar results.

Yeah, I also have done a couple complete discharge cycles and have noticed a considerable difference. Last night I was trying to completely discharge the battery before bed. Had a couple apps running while browsing the internet, wifi on etc, took until midnight before the thing shut off. Of course, I hadn't used it very much during the day, but still.

It seems like "idle" battery usage is improved, but actually "using the phone" will hit it pretty hard. Only 15 minutes of light browsing, battery went from 89% to 83%.

To extrapolate: You lost 6% in 15 minutes of web browsing which averages out to 24% for an hour or a little over 4 hours of web browsing on a charge. Isn't that about what this phone is supposed to provide. Seems about right.

I imagine in a few years we will see phones that can go a couple days between charges with normal use.

Here's some interesting battery comparisons: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4144/...ra-2-review-the-first-dual-core-smartphone/15
I never knew that wifi web browsing was so much easier on the battery...

Coming from a myTouch 4G I can't believe how bad this battery is, and I know everything there is to know about phones and configuring everything. I'm assuming its an LG thing, I never owned a LG phone before. I usually only stick to HTC, and in my open they make great products. I did the discharge and full charge twice, but maybe I'll try it a few more times. Maybe just do an exchange tomorrow at T-Mobile.

Given "my" normal usage, 4-5 email accounts and weather polling every hour, google maps with traffic for an hour, and half hour of browsing, the G2x should have no problem lasting a day. However given its weakish reception, if the phone is in a marginal signal area, YMMV.

I never knew that wifi web browsing was so much easier on the battery...

My N900 could go (2) days on wifi vs. (1) day on 3G.

However I would hope that the 5-6 web pages I browsed, intermittently during those cumulative 15 minutes, with the screen brightness at 20%, would not have the same burn rate of a 3G call, given the 6hr rating. But again, I am seeing much better idle time now that I've had the phone a few days...roughly 10% every 3.5hours. In comparison, my Defy, again which was just updated to 2.2, went 20hours before the battery dropped to 60%.

My first two days of using it had me concerned about the battery life and worrying it was the fault of the 4G. However, now that I have charged it a few times I am getting much better results. I'm able to last the entire day with moderate to heavy use on one charge without having to turn off GPS or wireless. I don't use bluetooth very often, so don't know if that would have any impact as I do leave that off, but otherwise I am getting reasonable battery life once again, and enjoying the major speed increase this phone offers. I guess it just takes a little while for the battery and phone to adjust.

I purchased my G2x April22 an the first 2 days yes the battery was very wimpy an drained fast but its been 4 days of use now an my battery has gotten 150% better!! I had phone off charger yesterday for 14 hours an still had 45% of battery left!! Aswering calls several gps lookups emails little web surfing for phone case, an played several games of chess online an still had plenty of battery to spare. Give the battery at least 4 to 5 days to kind of breakin period before ya pass judgement, it really does greatly improve! Now if Otterbox would get of thier AZZ an make a case for the G2x I would have no compliants!

battery life now is about 24-26 hours a charge without juicy defender with it wow 67-78 hours with some usage as well. no wifi though all network
Wow, I would say that sounds far fetched, but my lady's G2x gets alot of time off a charge. but she doesn't use it to its full capacity like I do.

i've been getting a good 8 hours per charge with my G2x consistently, thats with normal useage & juice defender ultimate.

With heavy usage (browsing the net unnecessarily, texting & talking at the same time) it gets cut down by like 2 hours so i'll get 6. I have 2 batteries & keep it charging btwn deliveries at work.

Hope that helps

I have had horrible luck with my battery. I just charged it about 8 hours ago and I haven't used the phone at all and the battery is half gone. It has been through 3 complete discharge cycles. It actually died last night and I didn't even realize it. I have shut off applications I'm not using, no GPS ect. I rarely use wifi because I know this is a battery sucker. I'm afraid of what will happen when I really start using it heavily. It seems to charge faster on AC than from USB. I love everything about the phone but the battery.

I have thought about this option but it makes the phone huge!

Honestly, the best advice I would have is to look into learning how to flash a custom rom and kernel. Our phones have shitty battery life stock and no matter what you do (turning off wifi, GPS etc) the outcome will still be the same. I have flashed several awesome roms and have came to the conclusion that cm7 and thrinity elp kernel has worked extremely well with battery life. I have had to adjust a lot of settings yes, but when you flash a custom rom most of them take out the bloatware that you can't get rid of on our stock phone. These bloatware run in the background and destroy battery life. YouTube how to root, create a backup of the original rom, flash a rom, flash a kernel, and install clockwork mod. I have even over clocked and undervolted my phone and can last 23 hours on one charge. Def worth learning and its fun!

I had a G2X which was defective. The battery that came with the phone would overheat and cause the phone to shutdown so I replaced the battery. The new battery would yield a runtime of 7 hours on a full charge, with the phone idle and all services disabled. The phone even discharged the battery while off at a fast rate!!!

I took the phone to Wind and they exchanged the phone in store for a used phone, but I had to keep my battery the replacement phone did not come with a battery. Today is my first day with the new P999 and my battery life has been VERY good. I used the phone lightly for 5 hours with data enabled and then left it idle for another 4 hours. My battery level is at 85%. My old phone would have been dead 2 hours ago. If you are the owner of a G2X / O2X DO NOT put up with terrible battery life. Have your phone replaced or exchanged or repaired. I tried EVERY 'fix' i could find on the web with no success and finally went and got a new one.
