ROM Upgrade For Beginners

My wife and I are enthusiastic users of the Sprint Hero. I'm fascinated by the unbelievable level of functionality over the LG Rumor I was using before. However, I'm a newbie to smartphones and would like to know what the ROM 1.1 upgrade is all about and what benefits can be expected. I've read the post about how to do it....just want to know why. Thanks!

The rumour doesn't run android does it?



Try updating it now see if anything new is already out.
But other than that, google isn't telling me much.

Menu > Settings > Tools > Update Firmware

I too would like to know, I'm leary about trying too root my Hero just because I don't want to turn it into a paper weight. I have read a lot of issues with people rooting theirs and to be perfectly honest I just don't want to ruin this thing, I love my phone lol.

if you're talking about the Fresh 1.1 ROM, it's simply faster, and in my opinion, better looking. Granted, I used Fresh's kitchen to put the stock taskbar back on, as well as the clear lockscreen, and a couple of apps. I love the fact that the bar at the bottom is square instead of round, no idea why. It is definitely faster though, and that's the whole point in putting custom ROM's on, speed.
