Nexus S S-LCD/SAMOLED, or..?

Hey all,

Currently an iOS developer looking to expand to Android, and also need a Phone upgrade from my dated BB Pearl 8100.

Found a bargain, brand new Nexus S for

I would look for the SAMOLED version as I wouldn't want to use a phone with a S-LCD screen, but I doubt you would find one it that cheap.

Apparently the S-LCD doesnt have a radio either.

If you look over at XDA developers forum there are several threads about this - there are arguments in favour of both screens - better contrast and blacks with samoled and sharper text with slcd. Both have their fans and it is incorrect for anyone to say categorically that samoled is best.

I have the Super Clear LCD version, and I love it. The display is really easy for the eye without being dull. And people who thought the LCD display would suck said to be suprised by it. It is certainly much better than all the other LCD displays around.

I suggest you read through this thread I started at XDA: Nexus S - i9023 Super Clear LCD - xda-developers. Has a lot of information and personal reviews about the screens from me, but also from others.

Just took a look through the whole thread, and I think it's helped me decide. Obviously the blacks are better on the SAMOLED, but seeing as I'll mainly be using it for browsing etc the SCLCD version will probably be better for me. Thanks!

I have the Samoled and I tried the slcd of one of my friend and I would never trade it for slcd! but this is my opinion, anyway you need it for devellopment so I think if you get the scld cheaper just go with it!

Where did you find this offer?

An eBay powerseller, but on closer inspection the reviews seem to state that although the description says SAMOLED, they have actually received the i9023. I've sent him and someone else who doesn't state the screen type a message though.

Ok. I'm more of less in your position, still hesitating between SLCD & SAMOLED
I don't think SAMOLED is such a pain for reading text (as many users said, the difference between the two screens on this ground is barely noticeable), I'm only afraid of burn in actually :/

Oh, forgot to ask. If your screen suffers from burn in, is it covered by the warranty ? Can you get an exchange ?

They could certainly argue that you must have used the phone in some fashion that was not intended in order to cause the burn in. Or they could just consider that normal wear and tear, which isn't covered.

I had read it already
The European warranty is somewhat a bit different but doesn't mention burn in neither. It says it won't cover material defects even resulting from proper usage :/
