Help SMS problem

So apparently on all of my text messages at the end my phone is automatically putting a bunch of @ signs. I am using Handcent, when I use the stock SMS it does not do this. The stock SMS sucks though because for some reason my facebook contact photos are not showing up. So I'd like to keep using handcent anyone know how to get rid of the @ signs. Oh and I dont see them on my phone but other people see them on their phone.

My wife showed me this too. I will txt her now and see if she's seen it from me recently... may need to remove handcent and re-install it... I'll let u know if she's seen it from me lately.

OK, she said it only happens when the message is long enough to go onto a second bubble...

sounds like a problem with Handcent if it works on stock app.

I did see in market that there's an update for it on my phone (which is odd since I JUST formatted/reflashed my phone) but the website says the last update was 3/27:
