I was going too. I had an upgrade coming June. Now they took it away with the new Sprint Premiere, which is why I upgraded to begin with. Dang it. Considering letting my lines go once they are free to do so. Already did with one line, three to go. dumb move Sprint. I quess they subscribers leaving because that is what they are use to.

Whether I upgrade from my EVO 4G totally depends on how the battery life on the EVO 3D is, and how the battery life on EVO 4G is (after the 2.3 upgrade - yeah - I'm still hopeful)

If the battery life doesn't improve on the 3D, I will probably stick with EVO 4G till my contract runs out and then get the HTC Sensation on T-mo

... except Sprint just added like a million subscribers.

Why do new people come here and make comments about the battery? First, the EVO 4G will last longer on one charge than a laptop doing practically some of the same things. Secondly, battery consumption depends on the USER. If you allow apps to send/receive data throughout the day thereby depleting your battery whose fault is that? If you did the same thing with a laptop while NOT connected to a power source what do you think the outcome will be? Some comments make nose sense.

Why do new people come here and make comments about the battery?

Because no matter what, if the Evo 3D hardware can give better battery life than the Evo 4G, it's an important point - and no doubt the 3D will proportionately get the same benefits from the Evo 4G tips and tricks on this.

So - regardless of the use scenario and configuration, battery life on any portable device is a valid criteria, don't you think?

In other words - you can never have too much battery life - and there's really nothing wrong with people asking for that.

And per our forum rules - let's not make any newcomers outcasts or second-class.

I do agree that you can't have too much battery life. I'm on my phone constantly, using it like a mini computer and yes, I find myself wishing for better battery life too. I certainly won't complain if the 3D has better battery life but I understand that due to all that today's smart phones do and are used for, it is the nature of the beast and something I just have to deal with and account for if I am going to own one and continue to use it to the extent that I do. In that regard I agree with Evulution.

I also do agree we should "play nice. " I enjoy these forums because for the most part everyone is cool and helpful and I'm not apprehensive about asking questions and being ridiculed. Because of you guys I have learned a lot and now try to help others when I can. :)

I am sure everyone has seen me asking for better battery life, and I wouldn't consider myself "new" to the smartphone scene.

What I, personally, would like is a better standby time. Most of these phones will drain ~40% battery (stock) just sitting idle.

And hell, even if it is user drainage, I am sure the heavy user would like to use their phone for that much longer.

At least we know with the Evo 4G that the poor battery life is a stock software issue. rooted configurations w/ better ROM/kernel gives you almost no drain when phone is standing by.

But yeah, I know you are a champion for the stock rom to be configured for better battery life out of the box.

According to EarlyMon, the Shift does really really well out of the box. So you could almost start saying HTC got their act together. But then you hear about the Thunderbolt battery issues. Not sure what's going on there. Hoping Evo 3D is good. regardless, I'll be rooting it, so I don't imagine battery life is going to be a complaint from me in the end.

A8 with extensions, fwiw, probably not much if you're set on the next generation.

By all accounts, the Thunderbolt issues are the combos of user config, early software defects that they've updated to fix (just like on the Evo last June) - and the fact that the 4G is somehow always on, no option to just turn it off like on the Evo.
Actually, owners of the Thunderbolt can turn 4G off by downloading an app in the market which will give them settings to turn 4G on/off. Most people feel as though they shouldn't have to ever turn 4G off though and there is your battery hog.

I think its all smoke and mirrors in regard to the battery life of the EVO 3D. Some people will say the battery life on the 3D is better than the EVO 4G. LOL, yeah the EVO 3D will be on par with the EVO 4G if people would have purchased a 1750 mah battery for their EVO 4G phones. The 3D comes out of the box with a 1730 mah battery and I wonder why? It's because that's the size of battery they should have launched the EVO 4G with. I'm going to test both phones out and I'm sure this talk about dual core helping with battery life is a myth. If that was the case why didn't HTC stick with the original sized battery? When I put both phones head to head doing nothing but surfing the internet I think 6 hours with an unrooted EVO running a 1750 mah battery will supersede the EVO 3D with a 1730 mah battery.

I thought Gingerbread had more efficient power usage too?

I definitely plan to, but I'm undecided as to when.

It's a lively forum - we even have the Smartbench (benchmarking suite being quoted by everyone as to what dual-core can do what) author posting there explaining to us what his benchmarks actually tests - great stuff! (That's in the http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/331783-underlying-tech-evo-3d-qhd-3d-dual-core-smp.html thread.)

We know now that the qHD display is made by Sharp, is not pentile like on the Atrix, uses a parallax barrier method for 3D and all sorts of interesting tidbits. ;)

How can software make a battery efficient? Does running Windows or iOS make a laptops battery run more efficiently....no.

Software can make the power usage from the battery more efficient. Code in the software may be utilizing inefficient algorithms that will require more CPU time/power. Several software manufacturers rely on improved hardware to make their crappy software seem better - when the same software can be improved to work just as well on the old hardware.

<rant> Example: iTunes - for what it is supposed to do, it is a bloated piece of crap (IMO). An application which is primarily supposed to be Syncing music /pictures /apps /files and backing these up and connecting to the app store should not hog so much CPU time. If you break apart the installer for iTunes, you will see multiple installers within it. The number of services/executables and kernel mode drivers that it dumps on your PC is just horrible.

EarlyMon is saying Froyo made his task intensive phone more efficient but he can't provide any proof. I gave people the usage of my battery and nothing changed.

those screen shots don't prove anything. There's so many different things that go into battery drainage and it varies drastically between. I have no battery problems on 2.2 and none and 2.3 on my evo.
