Help Return back to 2.1 rather than 2.2.1

Hi,

I am totally sick of my milestone freezing or crashing on a daily basis (several times per day!)

As a result i want to get rid of the 2.2.1 update which Motorola rolled out and return back to my original 2.1 update which worked a lot better.

Can someone guide me to the correct location to do this please?

I have contacted Mororola (hmmm)'support'...and they said the only way to get this done is to send the phone back in, which i do not believe for one moment!

Thanks in advance.

You can flash a 2.1 sbf with RSD Lite (google for it). The sbf itself you can download here: sbf:milestone [And Developers]

You need to put your phone into the bootloader to be able to flash it with RSD Lite. When rebooting your phone press (and keep it pressed) the up button (the one towards the phone) of the control pad on the keyboard.

But before you do that i would suggest you to try a custom ROM. They work much better than what we are getting from Motorola. I used CM6 for a long period myself and it is as stable as your 2.1 version, except that you will be running Froyo (and its advantages) instead of Eclair.

The only thing you need to do from where you are now (on 2.2.1) is to flash a vulnerable recovery, put Open Recovery and the update.zip on your SD-card and flash the CM6 (or any other custom ROM) over it. That should take you something like 15 minutes.

Follow that guide (it's for CM7 but it's the same procedure for CM6):
http://androidforums.com/motorola-m...date-milestone-android-2-3-3-instruction.html

CM6 can be found here: CyanogenMod 6.1.2 for Milestone A853 | android.doshaska.net
For the open recovery, don't use the one in that guide but this one: androidiani-openrecovery - Androidiani OpenRecovery for Milestone, modded for eclair and froyo - Google Project Hosting

If you don't like it, you can still go back to 2.1, but I doubt that you will do that. :)
