Evo 4G or Nexus S 4G?

EVO OTA 2.3 Update will be out soon. Being tested in Sprint stores right now. It's smooth like butter and everyone will love it!!!!! I can't give out any more info.

Awesome! You do know 2.3 has been out 6 months right? I am sure it will be out right in time for the release of 2.4 and we will still be several updates behind yet again! Woohoo! What do I care, I am ditching my Evo tomorrow for the Nexus S 4G, sick of waiting for Sprint to update my expensive phone.

You know you can update it yourself, right?

I'd consider the Nexus S 4G but no SD card slot is a deal breaker for me. What's next, non-replaceable battery? No thanks.

I have had 2.3.3 on my phone. Nothing to wet your pants over. Even Froyo wasn't a HUGE visible change but at least there was a performance bump. Not so much with Gingerbread.

The only thing I'm looking forward to is GTalk Video Chat in 2.3.4 which we can now do with most of the 2.3.3 custom ROMs.

Been there and done that with rooting and ROM'ing, never again but thanks. Everytime I look at ROM threads on XDA (since I had contemplated rooting again on my Evo) most of the posts are people having problems. Dont want to settle for things not working, force closing and freezing. I will take the official updates from Google thanks. No SD storage isnt a big deal to alot of us who dont feel the need to have a million songs and a bunch of movies on our cell phones. Plus, everything is moving towards cloud storage with mobile devices, get used to very little onboard storage space.

I'll let you guys know now that app works when I get my nexus. The lack of an LED was almost a deal-breaker for me but I really want to experience a pure google phone after using CM7 on my EVO.

I appreciate sense, I think it is the most well thought out manufacturer customization for android, but something about stock android really appeals to me.

I really liked Sense too, just drained the battery too much IMO. I have been using Launcher Pro for almost a year on my Evo. Whats so frustrating about waiting for updates is that its Sense that holds it up and I am not even using Sense!

Personal experience has been extremely positive with rooting. I think the majority of problems are self induced user errors in the rooting process. I have had far fewer issues since rooting than when I was running the stock ROM.

As far as "The Cloud" goes, you can keep it. I will find a phone that has onboard/sd storage or I will dust off my Evo 4G.

Well a bad ROM is a bad ROM, pick your poison. Totally understand there.

As for the SD Storage, you do relaize your on-board storage is double that of the sock Evo's SD right? :p

I just don't like the prospect of how it comes out of the box is all it's ever going to be. This is fine if you are buying a new phone every year like the iDon't crowd but I like to have my options.

I will say that if it wasn't a Nexus phone I wouldn't touch a Samsung phone with a 10' pole. Finally someone will routinely update a Samsung device!

I look forward to hearing people's experience with this phone. I bet is very well recieved.

The thing about rooting is it's not just about the ability to flash something custom. I ran the stock ROM for 10 months and just switched to CM7. I only want stuff that works 100%. But rooting opens up a lot of other options too.... kernel improvements squeeze out more functionality out of the hardware... Evo got framerate unlock, 5pt multitouch, HDMI mirroring, and a lot of other stuff. I also like being able to SSH/SCP into the phone for file transfer and management. splash screen + boot animation customization is a nice touch as well. root apps like wifi tether, droidVNC, quickSSHd, shootme, root explorer, etc.

Plenty of goodies from rooting besides trying custom ROMs.

I know :) I still have 5.45GB of the 8GB available on my Evo. So yea, I will never come close to filling 16GB. I dont carry music around on my phone really and I have satellite radio in my cars. Dont watch movies on a phone either. If I really feel the need to ever watch one outside my house, my iPad 2 would be a much wiser choice than a 4 inch screen. So yea, everyone has different wants and needs.

Exactly. The lack of SD card is not serious. I mean what exactly and how much exactly do you really think your going to use? Unless you have over a hundred apps and thousands of songs. Most of the stiff you won't use. Hundreds of sings can fit on a 1gb a lone maybe more so 16gb storage is more then enough to be honest. Is more cool? Yes. But not needed. People exaggerate the lack of that.

Do I really wish it had a led light? Yes. But I started with a hero and it doesn't have one. So I'm cool. That's not thy big of a deal. These do not take part in how the phone is performing.

I personally think this is cooler than a notification light

I forgot to add, I do get a new phone once a year. Had the Touch pro for 10 months, then the Hero for about a year. Now the Evo for 11 months and the Nexus S tomorrow

GB isn't available officially to EVO users as of now. However, this will change shortly!

Also, the hold up isn't at Sprint. There's a couple of trivial issues with the Integration Test Process on the EVO which should be resolved by early-mid next week. I believe the update should be pushed, but some QA people differ..

Basically, the OTA is ready at Sprint's end.

As for Nexus or Evo. I haven't played with Nexus, so can't comment on that. I'm mostly involved with the HTC side ;)
