Is the GSII worth it?

So I was wondering,

This is the "beginning" of the phone year sort of because it's when all the new dual core - NEW TECH - phones are releasing.

Someone said something earlier that got me thinking.

Is it worth it going from 1Ghz to 1.2Ghz dual core. Of course putting it like that makes the answer yes, but is it worth is when some people are saying dual core/quad core/2Ghz are coming out early next year?

Nah sorry. It's not really the money aspect, it's just my rolling contract is 18 months

This is actually a perfect example. You'll never be satisfied this way or you will. The next best thing isn't always that much different. Sometimes it's just a speed boost or same hardware different OS or more res or mega pixels. We don't even know whats going to be on the device besides quad. Anything you get now will be just fine for more then a year. I don't believe outdated stuff. People assume it's outdated because the processor is let's say a few months old. If it's a day newer in this mobile world ppl will call it outdated. I say if it still runs smooth & handles updates smoothly it's not outdated. Until it is no longer supported or can't handle the updates that get heavier over time & to advanced then it's outdated. The nexus one still runs like a champ. The nexus s runs smooth as silk compared to some dual cores. If the phone isn't built hood from OS to hardware quality wise it isn't worth it even if it has quad. I think you'll be just fine with the SGSII. If you have the money to keep jumping then do you. If you have the patience to wait that long for what is unknown & not concrete yet, then do so. Look at real world quality performance & the fancy stuff. Not just the hype. Sorry if it's hard to read. On the way to work & mobile.

Thanks for that. And I completely see your point. The main reason I even began looking to upgrade was due to my phone having no space left.

Shall I tell you what... I'm am so impressed with this phone so far! Ok, half of the credit is to Android as well. I've spent the last 4 days playing with all the features and not really touched games yet!

Although I dare say I will have this phone for 3-4years until the next big leap in technology... I've just come from a Nokia N95 - phah.

Oh dear. Don't know what's up with my reading today. Didn't read that you said "Galaxy S" I just assumed you were seeing the GSII, hence I asked what the possible reason could be.

If you did wait a little bit longer and saved a bit more towards an S2 don't forget they might be a touch cheaper come the time you purchase one

Yes, so long as you don't need a GPS.

Amazingly the GPS is just as dodgy on the Galaxy S2, can't even give enough sat locks to locate my position outside, completely useless.

Otherwise it's a fantastic phone.

You mention you have 1Ghz now. I had a 1Ghz HTC Desire and I upgraded to a SGS2 last month. If I had a mortgage, I probably wouldn't have done that, but I don't and I'm a geek, so I did. If you want a new phone now, then I don't think there is anything better now and there probably won't be for a few months, possibly not this year. When 2Ghz dual core processors are available, we'll be eyeing 2.5Ghz quad core processors, there's never a perfect time.

(Oh yeah, and GPS is fine. As good as on my Desire.)

Not here it's not and others are reporting problems as well so it looks like a gamble just like the SGS was, some work and some don't.

My gps locks under 3 seconds outside. I tested it myself. Turned off wifi/3g location and GPS. Turned phone off. Went outside my flat. Turned phone on. Swiped notification bar. Clicked GPS ON. Went to Google maps. Clicked my location and bam. GPS Locked. Its not a gamble. If it doesn't work take it to the nearest Samsung centre and get it checked out. See what they say.

Yeah, that was said about the SGS as well, replacing that never made any difference.

But I'll give it a try again....

It is a gamble, I don't see how you can just dismiss all the reports of dodgy GPS on the SGS and now the SGS2, this is no coincidence.

When driving, the GPS on my OS-less LG Renoir shows me where I was 10 seconds ago, how awesome.
I know I won't be disappointed lol, I need a faster GPS to quickly show me the backstreets map for when people cause a traffic jam.

The SGII is estimated to cost around 490, 500 eur... probably also coming down by the year but maybe not so quickly cause it's the dual core era now.

I think I might go with the Nexus S simply because it still does most of what I need it to do (except 720p recording and higher but seriously do I need that ??) and it is at a price point that I consider reasonable for a phone. I think it's overkill to buy a phone for 500eur... I mean... the amount of things you can do for 500 eur ? And then it's just a phone.. it can get stolen.. broken... etc. easily. Guess I'm just not the early adopter kind of guy

You did. Personally (i think i prefer the exterior of the sensation) but internally, it gets ripped apart by the GSII. The screen is the only thing that can even be (slightly) debated/compared to, spec wise.

download 'GPS status & Toolbox' from market. this works like a charm on my HTC desire and when GPS doesn't lock quickly. if this works on HTC phones with poor GPS signals, this should work on SGII as well.
