Do you have the drivers properly loaded? I use Windows 7, and when i plugged in my phone for the first time it asked me to install drivers, after i did that i could use it for mass storage. You also have to go into your phone and make sure you have the USB Debugging set.

If your trying to transfer the CM7 to your SD Card the best way is to get a card adapter and simply eject your card from the phone slide it in the adapter, and transfer the files that way, and put the card back in your phone. They sell the adapters all over the place..I got a nice Kingston one with a 8gb card from Radio Shack for $12.00

When I pull down the drop screen and try to hit mount, it closes out.

flash the latest build CM7-Ascend-05072011-signed.zip and also sounds like you need to uninstall and re install usb drivers...
