Good Job Rogers

In the past blog, I rant about Rogers for not showing their commitment to their customers has now changed my mind.

A special thanks to RogersMary and Rogers' team whom they took all of our complaints and dealing with us patiently and in a professional manner. Again, thank you for showing your commitment to us.

My kudos also. The wireless world is changing and I have a suspicion this event may have enabled Rogers and possibly HTC to see the future.

what phone did you get?
all rogers phones run outdated firmware.
does any of them actually run a 1.6 android?

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 will debut on Rogers with Android 1.6. According to SE it is _capable_ of 2.0. They won't confirm whether or not it will get 2.0 on Rogers, only that the X10 will "evolve" to 2.0 over time. (Their word, not mine). They would not commit to 2.1 yet. They told me that it was " a little beyond" them at the moment, whatever that means.

i wouldn't get anything from sony, i have a SONY flat screen TV with a faulty firmware that they will not update for my model.
it has a power saving "feature" that autodims when there isn't enough color on screen, as a result, it dims out on dark scenes, just when you don't want it to. you can't turn it off. that's about a "feature" as your t.v shutting down randomly to "save power". it's a bug, i assume the profile settings override individual settings. they've stupidly set this feature on all profiles, so there's nothing you can do. there's a forum dedicated to this somewhere. they've even sent technicians to look at the problem who came and admitted it was indeed a problem. they tried to escalate it, but firmware upgrades come from sony japan, and they will not hear your requests.

so do yourself a favor, don't buy sony.

If it's under warranty and they can't fix it, then just tell them to replace it.

they consider it to be a feature. that's not a valid reason for replacement.
they will, at best, replace it with a another display of the same model and the same firmware, which will have the same issue.

They may consider it a feature, but it is a broken feature. If you return a few sets they might get the hint and exchange it for a different one. Frankly if it was me I would demand that the problem be fixed or I would return the set outright.

Those words kind of scare me " a little beyond them" what the heck are they doing entering this product if they dont have some sort of evolution of it in mind. From the videos i have seen the "X10" looks awsome, i would think that upgrading the os would make it even better in the long run.

Here is the quote from my blog with the actual content of their tweet:

When I asked specifically if X10 users would be stuck on 2.0 they replied

Well let me tell you a story, i was looking upgrade my phone to the Magic, before Christmas. I contacted rogers and they said no problem. The phone was going to cost me over $100 + $35 admin fee, because i still had 14mo. left on my original contract.

The i did some digging on the web and joing this form I found out about the "1.6" mess and decide i'd wait and see what happens next with the magic.

Now Rogers decided to upgrade the magic to 1.6 and beyond (2.1), so i think great i can upgrade my phone to the magic and have a decient operating system on it.

I go to Future Shop to do the upgrade, the guy from FS is on the phone with rogers and now they are telling me i cannot do an upgrade i have to wait 24 months. So then i go to a "Rogers" outlet and try doing the same thing. Well the guy at rogers says no problem that will be over $500.00 dollars. This all happened with in a 24hr period.

I like to know what has changed, i was allowed 3-4 weeks ago to upgrade my phone, then i'm not, now i am, but i have to pay almost full price for it. Not impressed with there "Customer Service" at all.

Anyone know a Rogers customer service rep that knows what they are talking about?

I'm not sure who told you that you could upgrade before Christmas, but 24 months into a 36 month contract is what Rogers requires before doing a device upgrade.
