How do you copy custom ringtones to the Droid

I want to put some of my custom ringtones on my droid to use for my sms, calendar, and email alerts. What format is required by the Motorola Droid? Also, do I just hook my droid up to my pc and copy them to the system ringtone directory?

TIA

I believe you can just put them in the ringtone folder as MP3 files. If you have trouble finding them you can always use Astro or another file manager on the phone to locate the file.

Thanks for the information. Does anyone know if you have to name the ringtone in the description part of the file to make that name show up in the ringtone list on the phone or does it actually pick up the name from the file itself...i.e. starwars.mp3 would show up as starwars in the ringtone list?

Nope. No description needed. It just shows up as whatever the file name is. ;)

Ringtones are only for calls. Notifications are for your apps. You can copy them to system but there's no need and you're not mounting system via USB anyway. You can copy them to the appropriate folder(s) on the SD card.

Ringtones go in the Ringtones folder. Notifications go in the Notifications folder. Alarms go in the Alarms folder.

where and how do you get to the "ringtone folder"
Depends on where you put it. It can be anywhere on your SD card. The system automatically scans the card.

The folder structure:

\Media\Audio\Alarms
\Media\Audio\Notifications
\Media\Audio\Ringtones

is popular but you don't have to use it.
