Root DHD downgrading before rooting problem

Just a few more questions on this now... I've downgraded and now I've rooted using visionary - I know that I have root access, as the copy of Titanium Backup I had bought (before realising that it only worked on rooted phones) is working.

The guide I used to root then goes on to show how to turn S-off, which I guess I must do? Can I remove visionary from my phone, as I've now rooted? Is there any point in taking the Goldcard out of the phone? Does the fact that it's a goldcard have any effect on the storage potential of the SD card? Can I just change the connection type to Disk Drive, delete all the files that are on there and copy the files that I originally took off the SD card before formatting it and creating the goldcard?

Yep you can change it back to the original SD card and it'll be fine :)

Sweet!

If you want a custom recovery then you need S-Off otherwise you're ok as you are :) and yes... you can remove visionary from your phone :D

Custom recovery?!?! I will be wanting to put custom roms on the phone... it looks fairly straightforward to do S-Off... download a program and click a few buttons (similar to rooting really)... I think I will have a go, but maybe not straight away!

yea, you'll need Clockworkmod Recovery then (download ROM Manager from the market) you'll need to s-off before you can use it, but it'll back up your phone exactly as it sits so if you were to cock up the flash of a new ROM then you can just restore that previous one (I back up every week so I can try new bits)

it took a few seconds to s-off mine... downloaded a program to the pc, connected the phone with usb de-bugging enabled, clicked the s-off button and it was done ;)

That's what I'm talking about... I won't be able to screw my phone up!!

Sounds like the video I've seen on youtube! Think I'll do that tomorrow... just wanna chill out now and have a couple of beers - know that it's prob a good idea to keep beers and messing with my new toy completely separate!!

Lol - I know... thing is - I tried using the goldcard tool, but it would only allow me to use MMC0 (not MMC1 or MMC2)... I'd been using MMC2 from the offset when creating the goldcard image in the first place.

Just had a bit of a mare... Thought that the phone had stopped working, as I was not getting any signal, but then remembered that I'm on Orange and there's only sh!t reception where I live!

Now to move on to rooting the phone!!!

poopookakada - did you use visionary? Did you have any problems?? I've looked at several videos... it looks straight forward enough to me - temp root, then attempt perm root?

I just finished reading the ENTIRE THREAD and I said to myself "wow its like the exact same thing that was happening to me, gonna suggest the method I use and link to the other thread"

Turns out you found it and it worked also :D

I had the exact same problem and I figured it was the hex editing part so I went to copy the mcc2 do the goldcard tool on pc.

Glad you got it working :D

This thread's a bit of a novel now, but I hope that it could help someone else in future... I hadn't found anyone that had the same problem as me, so it could be useful for someone else (at some point).

I'm glad too... it took so long, but now I couldn't be happier - had been wanting to root for ages, but just hadn't built up the courage! I bet you're glad too... at least we don't have to go through the same process again!! :D

at the moment I'm torn between android revolution hd and cyanogen7.

Really want to try Rev HD... from what I've seen, it looks quite good... the main reason I didn't try that one before CM7 was that I'm sure I read it said something about having to flash a radio (and as a first try on a different ROM, I didn't want to have to do too much)... guess I'll have to give it a go at some point!!

ur were close what I read was that he recomends using the latest radio. which is y I origanaly rooted so I could update it. I soo wish I could duel boot both at the same time.

Might have to give AR HD a go then... gonna give CM7 a couple of weeks first though... think it's pretty good so far. Think I need to give each ROM a coupld of weeks to really see how good they are!!:)

Yes CM7 is pretty darn slick. Its well built i chose AR HD first because it is similar to the original firmware. But CM7 is very good just so hard to choose.
