Help Gold card for my Desire

I have been trying to create a gold card this morning with the SD card that came with the phone, I have downloaded all the required software but when I run command prompt it goes as far as

C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb devices
'adb' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

I have checked the usb drives using USBdeview and uninstalled and reinstalled but it just won't go beyond the point above. I am sure there is something I am doing wrong. Can you help me please?

1) depending on which version of the sdk depends on whether adb is in tools or platform-tools.

2) Just use the guide in the rooting FAQ to create a goldcard (link in my signature)

tried using platform tools and it worked. I am using a 4Gb card that came with the desire. I have tried downloading an update over the air but it won't update phone it just freezes and the a red triangle with an exlcamation mark appears, what am I doing wrong?

Couldnt tell you without knowi9ng current software version and the version you are updating to etc.

from what i remember of that ota it always failed and people moved to it manually by using pb99img.zip
