Hi

I managed to finally connect my phone with Windows 7 (64bit) using the steps shown here:

How to Solve HTC Hero Sync Problem in Windows 7 - Because it might prove a lot more difficult than you think - Softpedia

I even synced my phone a few times. But off late I am getting this error and I am not able to resolve this by simply re-installing the drivers / HTC Sync software.

This post seems as good as any to use for this.... :D

A new version of HTC Sync (2.0.18) was released today. It's still a 32-bit program but 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 are included and installed. Installation here went perfectly and the new Win7_x64 drivers were used in preference to my previous Vista_x64 ones.

Looks like HTC finally got it right...

Not for me they didn't! Using W7 64 bit I uninstalled 2.0.8 (which worked mostly) and installed 2.0.18 today - and now my phone simply won't find the Sync program on my PC (although both software and driver seem to have installed properly). So I've taken a major step backwards. Any thoughts, anyone?

Tried phone reboot - no joy.
Hey, The Fley - I had to use the old 'Instal the Vista drivers' trick when I first got my Hero and attached to a W7 machine. But I had rather hoped that now they've issued W7 specfic update to Sync and a driver to go with it, said driver would actually work. But it looks as if I'll have to round the Vista driver loop again. I have to say I find HTC Sync has been a major pain in the ass (as you'd say, I'd say arse) and has absorbed a lot of unproductive time.

Has the Win7_x64 folder been copied to \Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files? If so, use those files instead of the Vista ones.

I'll uninstall v2.0.8 from my laptop (running 32-bit Win7, unfortunately) tomorrow and see how a clean install of v2.0.18 goes on that. I wish I knew why it works fine on some systems and fails on others....

I don't see anything much in Device Manager that could be relevant. I have something called an ADB interface showing HTC Dream Composite ADB Interface, and under Disc Drives I have an HTC Android Phone USB Device; and I have no difficulty seeing the contents of the phone when mounted. But can I sync? Not a chance. Haven't tried reloading the Vista drivers though yet.

I think that's your problem. Right-click that device, "Update driver software..." and browse to the Win7_x64 folder mentioned earlier. It should find the correct drivers and install them.

Yes, but unfortunately, W7 won't allow me to do it, insisting that I already have the latest and greatest drivers working. Do you know whether it's the USB or the ADB drivers that are at issue here? I've tried moving the two ADB drivers out of their folder so that W7 can't see them - but it still won't let me replace them.

Pretty sure it's the ADB device entry that's the problem, as I don't have any references to it here. The MS USB driver is the standard one used for removable devices, so the entry under 'Disk drives' is normal.

When I connect my handset the following appears in Device Manager:

Android USB Devices (no driver used)
|
|__My HTC (ANDROIDUSB.sys & WdfCoInstaller01007.dll)

If you're not seeing the same, check to see if /Windows/System32/Drivers contains the former and /Windows/System32 the latter.

I dunno what's going on, then. The best suggestion I can offer right now is to uninstall HTC Sync and HTC Drivers, remove all HTC-related folders from /Program Files, reboot, delete all instances of ANDROIDUSB.sys and WdfCoInstaller100*.dll on the system, reboot again, and then try reinstalling HTC Sync with the handset connected to a different USB port.

I have also had a problem with getting HTC Sync to work on Win 7 64bit, I installed the latest 2.0.18 HTC Sync software and at first it didn't work, but after a bit of fiddling I got it working:

1. Navigate to Control Panel - Devices and Printers
2. Locate 'Android Phone' under Devices
3. Right click on the icon and select properties.
4. Click on the hardware tab.
5. Listed will probably be 'HTC Dream composite interface' or similar.
6. Highlight this entry and click on properties.
7. In the properties dialogue box under the general tab at the bottom click 'change settings'.
8. When the dialogue box reappears click on the 'Driver' tab.
9. Select the 'Update Driver' option.
10. On the first screen select the second option 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
11. In the next screen select the second option 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.
12. You should then be faced with 2 options on the next screen under Model, either 'HTC Dream Composite ADB Interface' or 'My HTC'.
13. Select 'My HTC' and that will install the correct drivers and then you should be good to go.

I hope this helps.
