Post number one did it for me :)

Rooted (Locked Bootloader) Phone - App Removal (Safe List) - xda-developers

Contrary to some folks here, the storage is an issue for me, since I swap cards for media. It looks like a person could yield almost 700 mb of user app space and no need to adb push apps (which can be problematic).

Sure hope the US version is just as easy to root :) I used Gingerbreak on my Acer A500 and same app is used for the Play.

Anybody able to wifi tether using the Play? I use my Incredible for this and need the function.

Wifi tether works great on the Play, im in the UK though on 3 where there is no data cap, not sure what the rest of the world is gonna do, i heard rumours of networks blocking it on all phones

Well this looks interesting, especially as it seems to speed up the phone quite a bit.
Is there a way to pull these apps off your phone to back them up in case you want them later?

Once rooted, Titanium backup allows you to back up apps & unintall, or freeze them (kills them to the OS, but does not uninstall them). Best to use the list that Play owners at XDA have confirmed can be safely removed and also read up on Titanium to understand the process (simple, but handy to know). Titanium ROCKS real hard. That said, VZW in the US is even more evil and infamous for bloatware. Yikes.

Makes sense now why the Play lagged, had 380mb storage and slow to boot up- Sony choked it with bloat. added: Sony should thank the rooters :) ;) Really.

So you are using a wifi tether app and not the hotspot app that comes with the Play? I of course am referring to a wifi tether app and NOT hotspot ;)
