Coming over from D1, any initial setup tips?

First of all, hello to all! I will be buying a Thunderbolt today (assuming they can do it, they said the network was down yesterday). I am coming from a rooted and ROM'd Droid 1, which I have loved but is starting to show its age.

I am wondering whether there are any particular "must-do" actions for this phone to optimize it upon setup (the Charge, for example, benefits from Java scripting being turned off). Any settings or options that I should look at, anything to immediately go turn off or on? I am assuming I can repopulate most of my apps between the Market and Amazon, and can copy over my special apk files for betas, etc.

I know the battery is an issue, but I am usually near a charger, so I am not too worried.

I am going to give Sense a try for a while, but I may switch to the Launcher Pro that I like a lot. I will not root for a while, though. I don't know why, but I can't bring myself to root a brand new phone!

I am sure I will be bugging the heck out of you guys for a while now as I get transitioned . . . :0)

Edit: one point is that I don't have 4G in my area yet. Anything useful I should do in that situation?

Since you don't have 4G, definitely turn off the 4G radio, there are apps in the market place called LTE OnOff, or you can dial #*#*4636*#*# and select CDMA preferred/PRL.

I know you said you weren't too worried about battery life, but this will make your battery last a WHOLE lot longer.

VERY cool, thanks! I will do that immediately!

Also be sure to first update the Blockbuster app and then disable updates inside said app. supposedly this causes battery drain. Also set up a comfortable spot on your couch because you're gonna be playing with your awesome new phone for several hours!!! Enjoy!

Good, did that now too! I knew I came to the right place! :0)

rabernet, thanks, that IS very useful! I will take the time to do this!

One thing I have come across is the advice NOT to use the onboard backup since it just drains battery. Will it let me choose to opt out of this?

Are you referring to Backup Assistant? I am probably one of the few who is a fan of Backup Assistant, because I've lost a phone before, and Backup Assistant was a lifesaver in not losing all my contacts.

Luckily, all of my contacts are in GMail, so I don't have to worry about losing them. I am most concerned about conserving battery life, so any additional drains are going to be on the chopping block! :0)
