Sprint Airave (Post #1 has a quick "FAQ" for help)

the way to limit the access to the airave is loggin on the sprint.com on your account and actually listing which numbers can use the device.

i've noted that when the airave fails or just takes its sweet time to give me my signal it has nothing to do with the equipment but with my internet service provider.

the airave demands a steady flow of broadband at all times or else it resets the system trying to get a better lock on for the signal.

My internet provider seems to think that people wont notice if they throttle the speed on the service... but with this device ( and our PS3s and 3 computers) we notice pretty fast when they falter.

But i must say. this thing is pretty awesome! I live on the edge of sprint service and with this thing turned on wow... you can actually tell when we are near our house because our phones go from 3 bars to full.

i highly recommend trying this product first before ditching sprint in the search for better signal.

Quick update:

Been having a couple of issues today, 1st one being that the airave has made me power off and back on my wireless router twice today, and I still get an awesome signal but I cant call out, and when people try to call in it rings a busy signal.

But from everything i've read these things take alot of fine tuning until you get a setting that works good with your setup.

depends on several factors. GPS is very important followed by your data speed to the ISP. its advised to put the arivana on your router behind not in front. i think thats how you have it setup based on your post.

i have had both of them and never had any issues. i have the latest airvana now and it never gave me any issues and i have had it since launch.

but the most important is the GPS antenna. make sure it has a good LOS to the sky.

My setup is Modem to router, router to Airave. But its weird because if I leave my internet idle for a couple hours or so then I try to use my wireless signal it will show that the signal is fine and that I am connected, but it doesnt work at all.

So I have to unplug my modem, router, & airave then plug in my modem (let it cycle),then router (let it cycle), then airave and then it works fine. And if I keep using the internet I have no issues, but every morning I have to reset all of my internet stuff.

And also since hooking up the airave my ipod/pad always forgets my ssid so I have to put it back in every day. But my evo doesnt forget...(insert funny android vs apple pun here)

But I never had that issue with my ipod/pad forgetting my network p/w.

That just sounds like a huge pain in the butt for some decent service.

agreed, do you have DSL or sat or cable?
i dont have to do any of that. this sounds like something in your home network that is affecting your service.

do you have any QoS settings set on in your router page? the lights on the airvana, are they solid (the data light may be blinking)?

what router are you using?

Im not sure about the QoS settings, and the lights on the airave are solid (except for the mobile light when I am using my phone, it blinks but sprint said it will do that)

My router is a linksys...

Well heres yet ANOTHER update...I CANT BELIEVE THIS!!, I got a call from my internet service provider apologizing for the bad service this past week and they said that the internet would be down for a bit while they fixed the network.

They told me that it had been messing up since Monday. So, all this time I was thinking that it was the airave that had been messing things up. It all could have been my ISP.

I recently contacted sprint about my signal (or lack thereof) since the latest PRL update. I told them that I never had good 3g speed at home, but my voice signal would be decent (most of the time around 3 bars). But since the latest prl update my phone would struggle to get 1 bar. And 3g was pulling download speed around .04mbps.

They suggested the "airave" to me, it did cost me around $100 but they waved the monthly fee.

I got the airave yesterday before I went into work. I followed the instructions to a "T" hooked it up, and left for work. When I got home my wireless internet didnt work, nor did the airave. I talked to one person on the airave customer line (the guy wasnt the most pleasant person), and he couldnt help my problem. I finally just had to reset my router to get wireless internet to work again.

Finally, this morning I got on the phone once again with airave customer support, this time it went MUCH better. I actually had to setup a seperate port in my router for the airave to run. After about an hour of being on the phone we finally got the airave to work, and now I must say;

THIS THING IS AWESOME.

I went from no signal to having a full signal, my 3g went from nothing to 2mbps!. Which obviously I wont be using 3g when at home, but it is nice to know that I can pull those kind of speeds. And most importantly I can make and recieve calls.

To anyone who is in a poor reception area I highly recommend calling sprint about the airave. But be prepared to be on the phone with airave customer support for at least an hour (if not more).

they offered me one and I told them "i've got wifi why the hell do I need this." I cant take the aiirave with me when I am about and about. Service in the oklahoma area has gone to nothing. Airave woudlnt help out. So hopefully they let me ETF free out. Have 3 out of contract and 4 still under contract

I have cable internet...well not ATM. Still waiting for them to fix the network..going on 24 hours now.

But I kinda started to get irritated with sprint having charged me $100 or so for the airave after noticing at work my service had dropped drastically also.

So I sent sprint an email, along with a picture of what their coverage was last year and what it is now. And just asked if I could either get my airave fee waived or let me out of my contract.

A really nice account executive called me back. She firstly said that she would drop the charge for the airave. And she went on to tell me that basically their service sucks now (not in those words though). And that they have been planning a big upgrade with their towers but much of the equipment has been back ordered due to the issues in Japan.

But she did admit that their coverage/service had dropped off drastically, but she added the good ole' line of "we are working diligently to correct these issues".

So long story short if you can prove you are in a bad service area they will give you the airave.

indeed many know this. both units i never paid a dime for nor any monthly service. at least you got some relief. once your ISP provider gets you back up and running, re-test.

Ok, I am up and running. Zero issues with my internet and airave.

I had never had internet issues like what I was having this week. First I would be able to connect 1 thing to my wireless signal so if it would be my evo then that was the only thing I could connect to the signal or visa versa with my laptop.

Then after having a connection for 10 minutes or so I would lose my signal and have to unplug and reset my modem/router,But if I hooked in my computer directly to the modem it would work fine, but if I tried to connect my phone or ipad to the wireless it would kill my internet connection.

So I honestly thought that the airave had done something to fry my router. But as things look now it seems that it was just my ISP's fault.

But that was so strange, Has anyone ever heard of anything like that happening while an ISP is doing an upgrade? I just thought that you would have no internet at all.

The only thing I can think of, besides it being a very strange coincidence is that the internet worked all along but it was very weak and if it got "overworked" it would just shut down.

But having said all of that, the airave works fine now. And if I wasnt having all of the above issues the airave would have simply been a "plug and play" installation.

Sprint sent me an Airave about a month ago. Finally got it hooked up today, and thusfar, I'm not impressed. First, it came with no directions on how it should be hooked up, or what the activation process was. Fine- I figured that out on my own. Now that it is hooked up, my broadband internet connection is slower than slow, and it appears that other people (I live in a condo), are using my Airave signal, so I still have no service in my home. I've had a few "full bars" calls, but they have been few and far between. Guess that my neighbors should call Sprint and get Airaves as well. I've been with Sprint since June of 2010, and they sent me one for free, no montly charge, because I have 1 bar of service in my home, and outside, 2-3. (Sprint tells me that they are NOT going to fix the "wounded" towers by my home, because they are upgrading to LTE technology in a couple of years, so I just have to "deal with it"). When I last checked my account online, I did find out that Sprint decided to "renew" my contract and extend it out for 2 years, because they sent me the Airave. I did have to call and argue with a rep for an hour or so to get it back to the way it was- deleted completely, because I have horrible service at my home.

Honestly, I'm going to leave Sprint shortly- as soon as Verizon puts out a phone that I want- then I won't have to deal with this crap, and the Sprint reps that have no idea what they are talking about.
