Any tips on a first time build? I have the items selected and I am wondering if you all have any experience to share for a noob

I also have a couple fans in there too. And a CD/DVD burner. But I won't bore you with those "trivial" items.

I have the same Corsair PSU in a computer now, it is awesome but my only concern is that there will be enough power for the HD? Its a Velociraptor 600 GB 10,000RPM so I am not sure if the power will be sufficient. I think it should be fine though. ANy input on that?

Righty, the links are a lil messed up, the PSU one, Case one ...

The HDD needs most power on boot, to spin up, most modern BIOS chips these days support a HDD delay feature so if your PSU cant cope with switching everything on at once, you can at least delay the HDD and cd/dvd by a few seconds for a more even power flow. or you could just get a slightly better PSU.

Try and future froof if you can afford too. There are USB 3.0, PCiE 3.0, SATA 3.0 and bluetooth 3.0 technologies around now, so if you can afford to invest now, your build will last longer in the end.

Fixed the links. I appreciate your help very much. I am nervous about this because to me the amount of money I am going to be spending (probably close to $1,000, which is a pretty penny to me). I just don't wanna mess it up; but I am looking forward to doing building it very much.


As far as the PSU goes I think you confirmed my worry; I better get a PSU with more power, they got them on sale so It should be a good deal. I'll have to look into the other things you mentioned. I am not that saavy right now with what exactly you are talking about. But thank you for the heads up. I want this rig to last me a while, with minimal upgrades in the future.

I was just looking for any input on these items and any advice on building my first computer. This is a big deal for me and I don't have a lot of experienced people around me to help.

Take your time, don't force anything (if it won't fit check things are aligned correctly) and ensure the system powers up and boots before securing everything in the case - it's a bummer to have to part-disassemble to refit a loose fan wire!

The PSU should be fine. Corsairs are very efficient and deliver their rated power right across the performance envelope. I've got an X4 965 (the original 140W beast) with two 10k rpm Raptors and a 5850 GPU in this system and it doesn't draw 600W at peak load.

Another quick note, do make sure the PSU you get has the right connectors to attach to the mobo, you don't want to waste time and money just to find out you have wrong connectors and thus an incompatibility. Same can be said for all hardware really.
