Galaxy S2 on AT&T?

Hey everyone. I am new here and I am really hoping that the Samsung Galaxy S2 will come to AT&T. You see, I am on an old iPhone 3G S and it is dying slowly on me. My contract is up and I am definitely going to get an android phone, but none seem right for me. I know the infuse is coming out but I look to be futureproofed by having the dual core processor in my phone. The GS2 is really what I want. So I have read other posts and have found that some people have talked to VZ people and they had it and said they were going to release it. If anyone has had that experience with AT&T I would really like to hear about it. And if not, I would love to hear your predictions on when it will come out. Thanks...

Still really no word yet. The Infuse got a great review on Engadget (not as good as the S2), and if you can handle its size, you may want to jump on that. I would just be too worried how ATT is going to cripple this device. However, they were one of the first (or first?) to release a US Galaxy S, so hopefully the wait won't be much longer than mid to late summer.
I'm really hoping it'll make it (unscathed) to Verizon since there's no other phone in the pipeline that looks as good.

Att is mot better than verizon. Their plans are the same price exct for it is 5$ cheaper for data but tuey cap u at 2 gb where verizon is unlimited thats about it. Their service howeverhowever is shit compared to verizon trust me i had the atrix on their supposed 4g nnetwork and it was a snail compared to verizons lte

Yeah but I'm talkin about 3g, which is what most people have and all the iPhone users...even the Verizon biased media admitted ATT 3g is about twice as fast as Verizon 3g. my att 3g is very fast (about 2.8 megs/s) and i live in the boonies.

If you're lucky enough to be one of the two people with verizon lte, well tmobile is still faster.

Verizon is higher priced in everything, compare their mobile data plans to virgin mobile right next to each other in wal mart and it's literally twice as much for the same data on verizon.

Verizon charges 59.99 for the lowest talk+text plan, plus 29.99 data no options. ATT if you dont use much data like most people you have a $15 data option, verizon you have no option, youre gouged 30 for data even if you barely use it. Personally with an employee discount with ATT I'm out the door for 68 a month including phone insurance. Verizon also offers you no lower price texting plans like ATT does. Bottom line for a lite phone user like me, I can do way better on ATT, thats a fact.

Verizon already said theyre not interested in being the biggest carrier, just the most profitable (they said this when asked about ATT surpassing them with the Tmobile acquisition). Says a lot about how they gouge the customer.

And after all that, ATT is tough to beat on getting the best phones too which counts for a lot too me. Want to wager who gets the SGS 2 fastest, verizon or ATT? I'm glad to be on ATT where I'll get it first, or maybe a close second to Tmobile at worst...over there at Verizon you'll be waiting...

What type of download speeds are you getting on at&t and did you get a plan? I want to get the phone, but not sure if it's worth it and I would be switching from Sprint, which will be betting the evo 3d soon. Have you had any issues with the phone?

Average download speed is about 3 m up and 1 m down..its been as high as 7 m down..yes you'll need to get an at&t plan..I can't stress this enough, this is a killer phone! I know the HTC evo looks good. ( and I actually like sense 3.0) but there is no way that phone will perform better then the Samsung gs2 ..the only issue I have ( and its not an issue with phone its a software thing) HBO go doesn't work on it..I really wanted to take advantage of the service on the gorgeous screen..and the lightness of the phone might put you off..especially if your coming from an HTC device ..its crazy light..that's the first thing people say when they hold it..some people say build quality feels cheap...I'd say not cheap but light..

You make some valid points. However, you're a bit wrong about the "gouging" statement. Who has been posting quarterly losses as of late? Verizon. Who has been posting huge gains? AT&T. Fact of the matter is that Verizon is rolling everything into their network. They have better 3G coverage, LTE coverage is spreading like wildfire, and their tower backhaul is sufficient to support it all. Meanwhile you have a carrier like AT&T who seemingly keeps coming up with quarterly net gains, yet their HSPA (3G) coverage is average, they admittedly (in a quote from them at CES) don't have the backhaul to a large portion of their towers and won't until the end of the year at best, and the "4G" HSPA+ coverage isn't up and running in most markets across the country despite the marketing of their phones. Forget LTE, which supposedly is being ramped up when they don't even have the current network shortcomings addressed. What a mess. What I see from AT&T is a company that has rested on it's laurels, soaking in the success of the exclusive iphone and neglecting their network. It's now coming back to bite them, and on top of it, they're willing to suck in the T-Mobile subscriber base to, what, clog things up even more? I would appreciate the lower price options, but seemingly in this situation, you get what you pay for.

Why did you have to get plan when you did not purchase the phone from them? I don't want to get locked into a contract with them. I think the htc phones are too heavy and one of things I like about the sgs2 is that it is thin and light. If you don't mind me asking, but what did you pay for the phone?

The problem isnt how it works, it's the price. I would gladly buy it, except that I really need to get an on-contract phone. I don't doubt the value either, but I have a very strict budget.

Sorry of this was already posted but it looks like the US versions will be shown soon. Hopefully at Sammy's upcoming event in NY Samsung Galaxy S II U.S. carrier branding leaks out? | PhoneDog

People are assuming T-Mo will get a special edition like Sprint had with the Epic 4G because they're not listed in this leak. I think the names that they're given are code names because those names are very silly to me lol.

AT&T has faster peak 3G speed (HSPA+) than Verizon's CDMA/EV-DO 3G, but only where it works properly. And their coverage is very spotty compared to Verizon's wide map. Now when it comes to 4G LTE, Verizon is far away ahead of AT&T. Their fake 4G branding of Atrix, Inspire and Infuse is laughable next to real 4G LTE phones like Tbolt, Charge and soon to be released Revolution in Verizon.
