VZW CPNI (permission to snoop and share your info unless you opt out)

I wanted to post this here for my fellow Droid X users:

You can disable it (opt out) by calling 1-800-333-9956. Google verified the number belongs to Verizon and comes from official documentation at Verizon | About Verizon - Privacy Policy - Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) for Wireless Consumers

You can also opt out right through the verizon site once you log in. Go to the account tab select "account profile" >then scroll down to "Alerts and Preferences" and select "Manage Privacy Settings".

Mine was set to share so I changed it.

Interesting, mine were set to "do not share" even though I'm sure I never changed those preferences manually.

Ahhh... CPNI! I think most every telecom company in the U.S. has to deal with CPNI issues. My employers, now one of the largest Bell Operating companies in the U.S., regularly quizzes us on CPNI and how to never share customer information without that customers explicit approval.

All three of my numbers were opted in. By the way it reads (at a glance) they make it look like it is something good they are doing for you. I changed my settings, thanks.

Eh, I don't care so much. While I can understand some people's legitimate reasons for wanting their privacy, I don't have anything I don't mind someone else seeing. If it helps Verizon work better, go for it.

I agree with you. However, I do resent being automatically enrolled in this. They should make every customer aware of the fact that they're lurking in the shadows, which is why I opted myself and my family out.

If I remember the last CPNI training I went through correctly, customers are not supposed to be automatically enrolled. What's supposed to happen is that you are opted out until you give permission to change your status. But, to be honest, I don't work for VZW so for all I know they have a different take on CPNI.

And if "helping Verizon work better" means letting them sell your information while lining their pockets instead of running phone lines? I'm less concerned about the spying as opposed to the trading. If anyone is gonna make money from selling my info, it's gonna be me!
