Android OS Updates

Can anyone give feedback on how to interact with those that are responsible for updating the Android OS? I seriously need updates ti inlcude PIN and remote wipe for exchange email. Corporate wont allow me access, even with Touchdown, until Android updates... may have to go back to iPhone.

You don't need an update for either of those things. If you go to Settings > Setup SIM card lock you will be able to set a pin code, and for remote wipe functionality you can use an app like wavesecure. It will allow you to autmatically or manually lock your phone if it is lost and someone removes the SIM, and you can remotly backup and wipe all of the data off it from a web portal (and the app is still free at the moment). I have tested the fuctionality and it works perfectly

Thanks for the feedback, but I do need an update. My corporate IT will not allow my phone access until Android id updated.

Do they give a reason? It just up until the Nexus One was released the droid had the most up to date version of the software availible on any android phone

Star it, comment on it. Google has said NOTHING about fixing this.

Like I said above, if you install Wave secure, you can remotly wipe your phone.

Yes but not all of us can. my company took over my phone number and I have to get my upgrades through them, as most large companies work. They will not buy me a Droid untill this is natively supported. Also that may work for a tmobile Nexus, but we are in the Droid forums... no SIM caard on verizon.

True, but what I think they are saying is that Android needs to support it natively and not through another app.

I am just going on personal experiance, as long I as I can demonstrate the required security and functionality features my company will let us use whatever phones we want

I like companies like that. I wish my company would get an exchange server. We are a small company though.

Look into Microsoft Small Business Server. Pretty affordable and comes with Exchange.

Unfortunately most large businesses move at a glacial pace and have IT staff worthy of the Third Reich. That said, they simply are not agile enough, or simply don't care enough, or are just too restricted to react to most needs of the regular user/employee. Which is very sad since it is the common man whom is the most progressive with technology and usually has the brightest ideas i.e. DroidMan719.

I'm willing to bet upper management/execs has technology and phones which are outside the totalitarian specs of the IT Staff and corporate policy. Maybe your best course of action is to demonstrate the Droid's features and functionality to one of the big wigs emphasizing security (Wave secure) etc. If thats possible.

Then watch the IT Staff become unglued. It's priceless.
Gotta love big brick business. Worst case, youre stuck with a Crapberry or similar.

I must admit, my dad has the same problem. They have just given him a touch screen blackberry (Storm I think) and he just wants to throw it out the window. It's great for email, but usless as phone (which people forget is the main function of these wonderful little devices we carry round!)

Back on topic, I don't think 2.1 will bring any of the features you are looking for nativly, so even if it appears tomorrow it won't appeas your It department I'm afraid
