HTC Gingerbread update.

I'm curious about phone signal as I'm on Orange but my iPhone is 02 and so many places where I can't get signal on Orange, even in the centre of town and can't believe that it's the network being that bad

Where abouts do you live? Orange can also roam on the 2G T-mobile Network. Orange 3G is S*** at the moment and the slowest I think as well. I think Voda was the fastest.. and in London it is practically useless.. In Canary Wharf all their 3G mast are out, but you can still connect to it but you don't get data/sms/call. I had to leave my phone on 2G

Exeter. Was with Orange on my first Motorola handset probably about 15years ago then went with 02. Gone back to Orange as had a crazy deal for this handset but reception is no-where near as good. Quite often have my work iPhone with me on 02, and that one is nearly always ok, but hard to tell if network or handset

Unbranded and unlocked on Vodafone. One of the first ones from CPW last October. Been on 2.2.1 (the "pulled" version) since Christmas, though with no problems. OTA popped up after a restart this afternoon and installed with no problems. Did a restart after installation but not a factory reset ....

Seen no problems so far. Deleted my Bluetooth pairings so I can set them up again as, supposedly, BT has been improved.

No sign of the wifi problem, though the phone is sitting about 3' from the router (a Draytek) so shouldn't have any problems ....

Wasn't even aware my DHD would get the update today - when the news about unbranded updates came through I figured I'd be waiting another 2 years being on Orange UK. They must've changed their method of branding, as my Hero with Orange was branded, and took about a year to update to 2.1 because of the branding.

I bought my Desire HD through them as an upgrade in December, and it only occurred to me today that it's totally unbranded. So for once, the latest version of Android came on time! Was pretty much coincidence that I decided to check for an update on my phone today. Very surprised to find the response that Gingerbread was ready for me!

Having Charlie Sheen's "Winning" as a notification sound made the discovery even more magical :D

Got my update now and the phone is alot quicker in the menu's. The screen does apear to be sharper and brighter and it now shows two bars on the mobile signal strength when it used to only show one bar. Going to fully charge it and then see how long the battery lasts.

So far I like it.

Going to celebrate this with a few bottles of Bath Ales "Ginger Hare" ale and I might even bake some gingerbread as well.

Thanks for keeping us all updated. I tried once earlier on, then read on here you have to keep trying to update. Eight times later, there it was. Downloading by Wi-fi. (SIM-Free with GiffGaff SIM).

A techie friend of mine is telling me to hold off until HTC weed out the bugs, but 2.2.1 has a few issues for me I can't live with. Let's hope I don't regret it!

Happy Gingerbread Day (I hope!) :)

What is this Wifi issue being mentioned?

I've just updated my desire HD and now WIFI won't work at all. It'll connect to my router and show that its connected, but if I try and browse the web it just says page not found. I've tried restarting my router, restarting the phone, disabling the firewall on my router etc without any joy.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Did you hard reset your router, or just cycle the power... Try going into the router and defaulting all the settings

Yay! Depeche Mode! Saw them twice last year.

Was having problems getting Swype Beta to work, uninstalled it and now it's saying I don't have enough phone memory (100MB + internal memory left and a 32GB card).

Maybe just me? The Swype keyboard appears for a few seconds then disappears.

Edit: Rebooted and now it's installing..and works. Phew.
Lucky you!!!!

I can connect to my wifi network, I can even use GMote to connect to my pc and control the mouse, but it won't let me connect to the internet. My PC is connecting fine, as are my other devices. I've deleted the device from my router and rescanned, I've disabled the router firewall, everything. Whats going on?!
