EVO 3D or Droid X2

The specs are similar, minus the 3d and no front facing camera. I have heard some not so nice things about motorola locking down their phones, and HTC not so much. Then there is the whole sprint vs verizon, but we can save that for another time. Any thoughts or suggestions?

If you are already with sprint, then I would say get the EVO3D. I am personally going to get the EVO3D just because of the upgraded specs over my EVO. I think the dual core processor is going to be fantastic. One thing to keep in mind is when htc released the thunderbolt it had a signed bootloader. It doesn't make it impossible to root, but it does make it harder to run custom roms. I am waiting to get the 3D til I see what type of bootloader it has.

No front facing camera at this stage in the game is unacceptable to me. Might seem like a small thing but Video Calls are becoming more the norm than just gimmick. Plus the Droid X2 will be running 2.2 vs 2.3 on the Evo3d, the Droid X2 has 512 of Ram vs Evo3d at 1 gig, and tops out at 720p video recording vs 1080p (720p in 3D) on the Evo3d (although actual quality on either device remains to be seen).

If DX2 doesn't ship with 2.3, I'd be surprised. DX1 is getting it's OTA here in the very near future and DX2's screen shots show it running GB. If it doesn't ship with it, it'll be an OTA real soon after. So don't let that be a factor in your decision.

I'm a DX owner, and I'm getting the E3D. Why? While the DX2 is a decent upgrade over the DX, I'm just tired of VZW's BS. They're tracking who takes updates in some odd attempt to track who is rooted. They're cracking down on wireless tether. I'm also not a fan of the nickel and dime things they're doing. Plus Sprint is just as strong in my area and are cheaper.

DX2 won't have LTE. Which can be both a blessing and a curse. Better battery, but slower speed. I don't know how LTE stacks against Sprint's 4G, but more importantly, how VZW's 3G stacks against Sprint's 4G, but perhaps that should be a buying decision.

Hardware spec wise, they're neck and neck. The E3D has the 3D part, obviously, but that may also be a blessing and a curse for the same reason LTE is. More battery consumption for a gimmick, at this point. You have to decide if that's worth it to you or not.

So that's why I'm going E3D instead of DX2. Well, actually, I was going to wait for the Targa that's rumored to come out at about Christmas...which is a DX2 with LTE (hopefully a second gen radio that's less of a power hog) and a front facing camera. Sprint seems to care more about their customers than VZW. The phone has 3D, with a toggle switch (I wouldn't even consider the phone if it didn't have that) and is beefy under the hood, so a solid upgrade over my X. Now if they were only to release an official release date and price, I'd be happy and pre-ordered already.

Sprint's 3G/4G does not compare or come close to AT&T. Out of all the carriers in regard to mobile data speeds I believe Sprint came in 3rd or 4th. LTE is currently faster than WiMax because Verizon doesn't have a lot of 4G phones right now.

Every HTC phone has come with a locked and signed bootloader... Your confusing it with an ENCRYPTED bootloader, that Motorola has done to all their phones.

It's faster because it's on superior spectrum.

Whether its on 700mhz or 2500 doesn't determine speed but thanks for playing.

I had a Droid X... really solid hardware and pretty darn good battery life. I wasn't a huge fan of the encrypted bootloader and I also think that Sense really kicks the snot out of Blur.

I know purists prefer stock android but even outside of the launcher there were a couple of things that I really hated about blur (and stock android for that matter). I have to have a dialer that supports t9 dialing and the email client (for non gmail accounts) needs to be reliable... I ran into a lot of problems syncing with yahoo via imap and exchange accounts (if the exchange server has any kind of security policies). There are software solutions for these problems but it was annoying none the less.

The work HTC has put into their software is ahead of other mfr's... although it looks like samsung is starting to catch up a little.

That said, the primary reason I'm not on verizon is due to cost... the company I work for uses a secure email client/server package that requires a $15/mo enterprise data fee with Verizon... on Sprint I don't have that fee. I would have had to pay a lot more for a lot less with Verizon.

You are absolutely right! And a few weeks ago didn't LTE go down as well as the whole Verizon network. Haven't seen any Nationwide WiMax outages on Sprint yet.
