I'm having issues with the PVMtpServiceStart process again. I got this phone day 1, and did the blockbuster update/disabled updates but something is starting this service and killing my battery again. I have also verified that Blockbuster Movie updates is still disabled. It's been off the charger since about 7:50est and at 10:35est it is down to 66 percent. The phone has been mostly in my pocket with no internet usage at all yet today....

I am currently unrooted.

Is there a program I can run to see what program initiated this service? This isn't the first time this service has tried to kill my battery after turning off blockbuster

I had the same issue this morning, but read on another forum that it may be related to doing a media sync. It's the first time I've done one, and it is definitely killing my battery this morning. Even though the media sync was last night and I had changed it to charge only after I was done. Hoping a restart and charge will fix the issue...

You just inadvertently fixed my battery problem!! I did not realize that this comes back after a reboot. Here is a stupid question... why the heck can we get rid of it and all the other crap that sucks the battery life? Its hurting the device. There is a huge difference when this is turned off. Also should I stop PVWmdrmService as well? I don't know what I can and can not turn off. How bout DMServiceApp?

Thanks!

What is this? Its taking up 66% of my battery! My display only takes up 23%...

From all the information I can find it is part of the BlockBuster app. When it is running it continuously looks for BlockBuster update information and kills the battery in 3-4 hours. I don't know if anyone has a rooted ROM with the BlockBuster app removed. I have not rooted yet but am thinking about it if Verizon does not send an update that fixes this and other issues soon.

This worked to more or less fully disable the Blockbuster App: Launch the app. Allow it to do a software update (if required) then choose Menu>Settings>Disable Movie Updates.

I did that on the first day. It still will run those two services (PVM and PVW prefixed ones). It's just part of my routine now, if I have to re-start my phone, to just head on over to applications and running services and stop them both.

I do the same thing on a daily basis just to ensure the PVMtp is either not running or kill it if active. Called Verizon today for a credit for 2 day 4G issue and got about $7.50 credit  Anyway I mentioned the PVMtp problem to them and suggested they get it resolved as it is a huge battery drain. They will look into it, blah, blah and call me back. No call back yet, really suprised (roll eyes). Hmmm.... may have to root if they keep jerking me around.

Be glad you got that as if you break it down data costs $1 a day. THey could of given you 2 bucks and say have a nice day.

Bought Thunderbolt yesterday. For me, this process return immediately after killing it. Blockbuster settings did nothing.

Ensure you update Block buster to latest version and then go in and turn off auto-update. Go back and kill PvmtpServiceStart. Keep in mind anytime you restart or the phone reboots you will have to go back in and kill the app. I have never had the app restart without one of the above conditions happening.

Now you all know that Blockbuster is causing these random reboots, cause they want that PVMTP service running that they KNOW everyone is killing.

So... here is my question. In terms of having to install another app and have another service running, is it worth it to use something like Watchdog to kill the PVMTP services whenever it seems them?

Watchdog was free on the Amazon market a few weeks ago and it lets you monitor things and alerts you when they reach a certain CPU usage. One feature it does have, like many other task killers is to "blacklist" so it automatically kills the service. We can use this to kill the Blockbuster services, but it is it worth it if I have to have Watchdog running?

Is it possible to kill a service with tasker?

I F'in HATE with every ounce of my being the fact that they wont let us remove this POS Blockbuster app from our phones...you have NO IDEA how much if urks the $HiT out of me.

U act like all because u paid anywhere between 200$ to who knows, and that u prob pay almost $120 a month for usage. That we/you would be able to do what ever we/you wanted with "your" phone. I am sad to say this sir but........U ask for to much.

Sarcasm is the key my friend lol

F'ing blockbuster. Can you just please go and die quicker? Your shit's already in bankruptcy, just give up and sell to Netflix who probably won't care to buy you.

Ok ok, it probably isn't all of blockbuster's fault but it is definitely hugely theirs because they allowed verizon to load a trash app with their name on it that will forever make tbolt users hate them.

Dude...I paid OVER $200 for my thunderbolt, I pay a monthly bill to Verizon for $250 PLUS over $400 for a fleet of mobile phones for my company. I don't think its too much to ask to be able to delete a POS application, that I don't want that drains the battery on my phone. I shouldn't have to go and remember to STOP a service every time I have to reboot my phone. I wonder how you would feel if Microsoft put an application in Windows that you couldn't delete that caused your computer to run slowly all the time?

Then root your phone and get rid of it yourself, it's pretty simple if you can follow steps ;)

I haven't had my TB for 24 hours and I'm going to root it. I haven't had this issue with the BB app but man, it sucks for those who don't want to root!

To each his own, us rooters try to make it as simple as possible though for those who want to do likewise :)

P.S. Don't try to use my rooting program after reading this, it only works for the Droid 1. Just a heads up.
