Ok long story short Im one having the 4G issue with the indulge.
So far Metro has yet to fix it. I am on my 2nd phone in less then 3 months.
They have finally gave me something to choose from but I have to decide today.

Option 1) They gave me one month free of service already. And I can stay in the indulge and they told me that there will be an update issued this weekend to hopefully fix it.

Or option 2) I can down grade to the Blackberry 8530 and get another months free service for the difference in the price of the phone.

What would you do.
Keep in mind Black berry also has a trade in plan. But in the end I will be out $320.00 even if I do go with the blackberry and if I do use the trade in to go else where.

If they can fix the 4G this weekend I will for sure stay but if they cant is it better to take the hit at this point and go else where.

Well like my brother told me I should have never bought a Blackberry before and android but I did and now Im kind of stuck on them being better phones cause I never had any problems with the ones I have owned. But this is my first android and it has been nothing but problems.

I just dont know if I want to deal with it anymore or even metro in that case. I have spent more time on the phone with Metro then the indulge is even worth. And they cant say if the update will even fix it.

So the above is the options they gave me today. Kind of take it or leave it deal.
Just want to get some opinions maybe help make my mind up some. I really love the 4G but I havent even had it enough to be stuck on it. But then again I listen to pandora all the time and the BB 8530 wont play it on Metros 1x. Funny though the Indulge will. :)

I would stay with the indulge.....what we do know is the updates are real because some have recieved them already.

Wait for the update and ignore that offer..if the update doesn't help try again for the exchange and say you were told to wait for the update.

Seriously..I'm loving my indulge 4g except for the battery life.

How bad is your 4G anyway ?

Now I only get 4G when i set the phone down on the table and it goes into standby.
As soon as I pick the phone up and unlock it and then hit ANY app that requires data, the 4G drops right away.

That can be frustrating and understand why you would take the offer. Was it always like this from day one or did it start happening later on ?

Do you get 4g when outside ?

How far are you away from a tower?

Do we know if the 4g problem will be addressed with this new update for sure ?

That's weird.
It's not the Android phone that's causing the problems (seeing as both Indulges have the same issue), it's Metro.

BlueMuscles and myself happen to be in really Metro friendly areas; Texas is probably the best place to be.
On the other hand, you'll regret switching to the Blackberry. I know these things...I'm cellularly psychic. :D Wait for the updates and if they don't fix it, bite the bullet and switch phone companies. No matter how great a phone is, there's nothing worse than crappy or highly limited service.

Metro is in 4G infancy and hopefully they'll mature sooner than later.

BTW, for those that have received the updates...have they made a difference?

The phone would get 4G pretty good for the first week. Then would only get it for 30 mins or so straight during use. Then 3rd week I was lucky to hold it for 5 mins of use. And now drops before I can even use it (week4 going onto 5).

Inside or Outside its all the same.

How far are you away from a tower?
Im about 1/2 mile from a tower as far as one of the tower locator apps show. Otherwsie the visable towers I see are about 1 mile from my home. But not sure if they are metro. Pretty sure they are because my phone bars shoot up when I drive by them/it.

Do we know if the 4g problem will be addressed with this new update for sure ? Its not for sure,,,,,,but as they are trained to do, she made it sound like they are pretty sure.

This would make me take the chance..that's just me. If it doesn't work you can always
ebay the phone.

So I know you had to make up your mind..what did you do ..stay or go ?

I stayed........
What it boild down to is they say by this weekend they will be starting the updates. So thats a less then a week away. My 1x network still works for the most part as long as Im not near my home. So things like Pandora I can get at work.

And I also looked at it this way. If it still doesnt work I just keep opening trouble tickets until it is fixed so stupid metro people can get it right for the rest of you.

Or Ill take this to higher people in this nation. Im sure you can guess.

I can say though if they can get it fixed Ill be totally excited and surprized.

I really hope for your sake it works out.

If it makes you feel any better the indulge on ebay is selling for over $200
easy. So if worst comes to worst you can ebay it and move on.

yeah guess i wouldnt be totally out. But I wont let that happen. But Im not going to let Metro rob me like that.

Did I tell you I took screen shots of the coverage in my area with the date in the back ground. Just for use of insurance. For some reason Im starting to get a funny feeling that coverages will start changing for metro. And based off these issues with the indulge Im not getting left in the wind.

I also think metro service coverage will get better ..after all they are growing leaps and bounds and will not only be a contender but they are also forcing other companies to do without the contract and pay as you go.

I think you made the correct choice and just in case you have
records/snapshots to back you up if things don't work out.

I'm new to the forums (although I've been lurking for a week), as I just got my Indulge last week. My name is Shel. Prior to that, I was using a (Metro) Blackberry 8330. I currently have a ticket on the Indulge as well, as my problems are even worse than Sreums. I'm in the SF Bay, but only got a 4G connection the first day of service. Since then, I've been on 1x or using my WiFi connection at home. Whenever I shut down the phone, I MUST use the airplane mode to get even 1x service, and never get 4G anymore.

I wasn't super concerned, as I've gone through this rigamarole with Metro for the Blackberry before (but then it was losing the data connection randomly, and for all the time I had the phone, I would drop the call at least once during any conversation 90% of the time). Frankly, Metro is just not really geared toward dealing with smartphones/higher-end phones very well. I stayed during my Blackberry years because I share my plan with DH, and I have a work cell for "real" conversations. I mainly used my Blackberry for texting, emailing, casual phone calls, and occasionally web surfing.

So because I had a bunch of problems with the Blackberry (although an older model than Metro currently has available) I'm going to stick with the Indulge (and work with Metro through these problems) until it is clear that 4G is never, ever going to be my reality.

Hi Shel and welcome

I feel for you guys/gals who are having problems...don't know if
could live with the trouble you are dealing with.

That being said did you get the new update that's been going out since lastnight and today ?

Seems to be going out in waves and you and sreum would be a good
examples to see if it helped with the 4g coverage.

Thanks
