It's time to stop calling these things "phones!"

I do not understand why they call these "phones." It does so many things, and phone is only one of them. I am still amazed at how small this thing is and all the things it does. I would say about 5% of the time I spend using this device, it is being a phone.

Why "phone?" If we're going to call it a phone, we might as well just call it a GPS. Or an mp3 player, or a camera. Or a web browser.

I refuse to call mine a phone.... It would be better to simply call it a computer than a phone. Micro computer would fit, but that's already taken... how about nanocomputer? For now I'm calling it an "android." I refuse to call it a phone.

Communicator.

Kirk out.

I would agree with that, but it fails the same logic as the OP points out. In Star Trek, you needed 3 different instruments to get the same functionality we get out of our phones, oops, androids. Should it be called a communicator, a tri-corder, or a phazer (ok, maybe our phones don't have phazers yet ;) )

To bad google didn't go with the name orange instead of android, then we could have compared apples to oranges! :)

correct.... "communicator" would be good, but when I'm watching a youtube video, or taking a photo, or listening to music, I'm not communicating (although I guess some could argue that if the phone is reporting to big brother everything I"m doing, I guess I am communicating). But the name should be all-encompassing.
